i read the entire paragraph and no mention of winds that high...it does says 195 kph though...

bom bases a storm's intensity (cat 1,2,3) on wind gust not sustained. is that true?

i just googled this and yes i am right...a category 3 cyclone on the australian scale is equivalent to a category 1 hurricane/typhoon...

these agencies using 10 min winds are very confusing...why can't every agency in the world use the U.S 1 min winds like (NHC,JTWC)???

This cyclone will not be making landfall until tomorrow at the earliest. Rusty has completely stalled out while strengthening; a well-defined eye is now visible on satellite imagery. Upwelling will not be an issue due to the fact that sea surface temperatures in the cyclone's vicinity are running above 31C. Ocean heat content is also high.

I have never seen a TC be stationary like that and intensify at a good rate. That is quite something.

It looked like 100 knots (1 min) before falling apart again recently. It did intensity more than I expected given its loose core and broad structure so props go to Rusty.

The rainfall totals are going to be stupid crazy. I can only imagine what is going on down there right now.

A Cyclone WARNING is current for Inland areas of the eastern Pilbara,
northeastern Gascoyne and adjacent parts of the Interior, including Nullagine
