 Sub: Depression over Gangetic West Bengal.
The depression over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas of northwest Bay of
Bengal, north Orissa and Jharkhand remained practically stationary and lay centred at 1130
hrs. IST of today, the 20th August, 2013 near latitude 22.00N and longitude 87.00E, about 150
km southeast of Jamshedpur and 150 km south-southeast of Bankura. The system would
move west-northwestwards and weaken gradually into a well-marked low pressure area
during next 48 hours.
Under the influence of this system, rainfall would occur at most places over Gangetic
West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh with heavy to very
heavy falls at a few places over north Odisha and at isolated places over Gangetic West
Bengal, south Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh during next 48 hours.
Extremely heavy rainfall would occur at isolated places over north Odisha during next 48 hrs.
Squally winds speed reaching 45 - 55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph would prevail along and
off north Odisha and West Bengal coast during next 24 hrs. Sea condition will be rough to
very rough along and off north Odisha and West Bengal coast during the same period.
Fishermen of north Odisha and West Bengal coast are advised not to venture into the sea
during next 24 hrs.
The chief amounts of past 24 hours cumulative rainfall( 7cm ≥) at 0830 hrs IST of today
the 20th Aug .2013,

Deogarh 22; Batagaon 20; Chandanpur 13; Rengali 12; Danagadi ARG, Rairangpur,
Baripada 11each; Jaleswar, Pallahara, Reamal and Jamsolaghat 10 each, Keonjhargarh, K
Nuagaon ARG, Bangiriposi and Ghatagaon 9 each; Samakhunta AWS, Sundargarh, Tensa,
Kuchinda, Joda ARG Komna, Soro and Nawana 8 each; Nawapara, Bhograi, Joshipur,
Tiring, Korei ARG, Udala, Baliguda, Rajghat and Kesinga ARG 7 each.
Gangetic West Bengal:
Durgachack, Diamond Harbour 17 each, Jagatballarpur 15; Canning 11; Contai10;
Harinkhola, Baruipur Agro-AWS, Kolkata (Alipore), Sagar_Island AWS 9 each; Tamluk
AWS 8; Kalyani, Kalaikunda 7each.
AWS: Automatic Weather Station
ARG: Automatic Rain-gauge.
The next bulletin will be issued at 2030 hrs. IST of today, the 20th August, 2013.

Looks like a weak monsoon low that has formed over land. Not really a tropical depression. No development expected.
