I think Olwyn is the strongest cyclone to hit this part of Australia since Cyclone Vance in 1999.

Details of Tropical Cyclone Olwyn at 8:00 pm WST:

Intensity: category 2, sustained winds near the centre of 100 kilometres per hour with wind gusts to 140 kilometres per hour.
Location: within 55 kilometres of 26.1 degrees South, 113.9 degrees East , 40 kilometres east southeast of Denham and 180 kilometres north of Kalbarri .
Movement: south southeast at 26 kilometres per hour .

The centre of Tropical Cyclone Olwyn is tracking very close to the coast and is just to the southeast of Denham.
The system is weakening as it moves towards the south southeast.

As the system continues to move towards the south southeast it is expected to take heavy rain and squally winds into southern parts of Western Australia.

This storm is one that will definitely see significant changes in post-analysis. Best guess for peak intensity was 95 kt, after it re-emerged over water from first landfall.
