Regardless of Dvorak, I'm convinced this is a Cat 5, given the warmth of the eye and the sustained thick CDO and symmetry.

Taipei the most financially exposed city in the world to disasters, due to the wealth of the city and its exposure to disasters such as typhoons, earthquakes, floods, and volcanoes. The top risk factor: typhoons, which can potentially put $81 billion in assets at risk in the city. Taiwan has already been hit by one major typhoon this year--Typhoon Soudelor, which hit Taiwan as a Category 3 storm with 120 mph winds on August 8, killing 8 people and doing over $30 million in damage.

:uarrow: One of the prettiest storms I've seen. There is no way this is just a Category 4.

If i were JTWC, I would upgrade this to a Cat 5 but with no dvorak showing numbers that high, I see them conservatively upping to only 130-135 knots before it makes landfall...

Another possible miss...

Mmm looking at many of the loops I think this is just under category 5. How does it compare to the other cat fives this year? I think 130-135 knots is good.

Well I think some of the Cat 5's could have been stronger than 140.

This looks like the typical Atlantic Category 5.

Agreed. Put this side by side with Isabel (03?) and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Concentric eyewalls can be seen on Japanese radar.

JTWC sticks with 125 knots . I'd say 140-145 knots now.

Jesus what a scary storm. Soudelor had a hit here, Goni came close, and now Dujuan. Taiwan's had a busy season.

I'd probably go 130 kt right now, down from 135-140 kt earlier. Even with a large eye, there was about 24 hours (with a couple of short breaks) where a warm medium grey eye was embedded within the white ring on the BD curve. Eyewall replacement looks like it has now begun, putting Dujuan past peak, and cloud tops are warming some in response. Dujuan is still very strong though, and a 104 kt wind gust has already been observed in the southern Ryukyus just outside the outer eyewall. Impressive.

Peak wind gust I found was at Hateruma with gust recorded to 57.5 m/s (112 kt) from the E at 1155 JST (0255 UTC). See http://www.jma.go.jp/en/amedas_h/today-94081.html?areaCode=000&groupCode=65 for reference, or pick from the map at http://www.jma.go.jp/en/amedas_h/map65.html?areaCode=219. Other peak gusts were 54.5 m/s (106 kt) at Shitaabaru (Hateruma airport), 44.9 m/s (87 kt) at Iriomotejima, and 43.4 m/s (84 kt) at Ishigakijima.

The Hateruma Island (elevation 38 m) recorded ten-minute sustained winds of 40.4 m/s (78.5 kt) and gust of 57.5 m/s (111.8 kt).

This may be the strongest typhoon hitting Taiwan since Jangmi in 2008.

You can follow James Reynolds and Josh Morgerman both stationed in Suao Port (990mb pressure).

Huge waves, heavy rains and very strong winds impacting the nation.

The Yonaguni Island just recorded ten-minute sustained winds of 51.6 m/s (100.3 kt), breaking the record set by Mary in 1965 (47.8 m/s)

UPDATE:
The weather station also recorded gust of 71.6 m/s (139.2 kt), breaking the record set by Doug in 1994 (70.2 m/s).
Meanwhile, JMA kept the intensity at 100 kt at 06Z.
