And the Florida landfall that I bought in to...

I think Matthew was struggling with core dynamics and some kind of continental air infusion after Cuba...

Well, we made it. Lost my fence, a gutter, and part of a tree, but I fared far better than a lot of my friends. Many had to abandon their homes when the water got too high. Some don't have homes to go back to right now. The storm tracked 100 miles further up the coast than predicted with the eye exiting over the outer Banks. At it's peak, we had 50 mph sustained winds with frequent gusts to 78 mph. I have never heard wind like that, and this was only a Cat 1...

Edit: Highest recorded wind gust in Virginia Beach was 87 mph.

Main is underwater as of this morning.

Judging the modeling forecasting seems complicated. They failed to forecast a loop, and then jumped on the idea of a loop to the E, SE, S, SW. Then yesterday back to no loop and just ENE from OBX out to sea and post tropical.

The actual track looks to me a lot like the track that many of the models were forecasting a week ago before the loop solution? I don't know where to find week-old models runs but did the actual track verify what some of the models were initially indicating?

Lots of really bad flooding Inland in NC today. TWC is all over it. Looks like some localized flooding in Delaware as well and eastern Maryland per radar totals and warnings.

Good luck on the recovery. It's the price we pay for living in some of the most beautiful but dangerous real estate in the nation. I hope you can get things fixed soon.

Bye Matthew, what a fascinating tropical cyclone you were. I hope we never see your name in the Atlantic again.

THIS was the very first post in this thread. I think we can all agree that Alyono was spot on.

Agreed.

It''s pretty much certain that we won't be seeing Matthew in 2022. :Can:

With what it did to western Haiti, extreme eastern Cuba, the Bahamas, east coast of Florida and with the record flooding in GA/SC/NC, it's a guarantee that Matthew will be retired.

Sorry to hear that man. But septic or otherwise, don't trash everything. Bleach will kill almost all pathogens, and sunshine will destroy mold. Things contaminated like bikes and fishing poles can be hosed. They freaked us out during Katrina that everything was contaminated by "toxic soup." I chunked almost everything (which had been wet for 4 weeks til I could get to working on the house. Many other people sun dried items which were fine (excluding fabric by that point.). I told this story before but I threw out my mountain bike which had rusted a little. Next door neighbor tells me his friend passed through the neighborhood and told him he should thank all the neighbors as he's found 5 of the best bikes he ever owned. Then it hit me. Unlike us, you can salvage wood furniture as it's not too late to dry legs and such or even refinish. Your flood will give you a lot of
Money for contents but you don't have to replace that which you can save. Best to you and your family, man.

So sorry everyone had to go through this mess. It's as if a cat 1 hurricane hit every location up and down the east coast all the way to NC, even Virginia. What a mess.

still cannot find any word about what happened where this hit Haiti. Everything is from the northern shore of Tiburon or from areas out of the eyewall

I hope the 4 dreaded words do not have to be used

This wind from the backside of the storm is causing a lot of people to lose power despite it being all the way out to sea now.

Les Anglais is where the eye came ashore. I am positive I saw some aerial photos from the US Coast Guard that showed it completely flattened. Haiti requested our assistance.

Tiburon isn't densely populated but there are lots of isolated little communities in the mountains.
