Quite a rain event here in SE Florida with training of cells. NWS thinks gusts to 48mph possible at my locale after midnight. Not sure about that given the light to calm winds now.

I do like this example of a TS making landfall in S FL without TS warnings. Outside of tornadoes or the occasional thunderstorm downdraft, I would be surprised if we see any sustained TS winds in FL.

Here is a plot of the current winds. Strongest winds over the Straits at the moment with light to calm winds over mainland South Florida:

what is it with Marco Island attracting all these storms... Wilma, Irma and now this (even though it's minor- thank goodness!)

Fay also made landfall at that location in 2008.

I'm not sure if the best classification for this is tropical, subtropical or extratropical right now.

I don't even remember that. Yikes! That doesn't bode well.
So much for local legend that Marco Island is adverse to storms...

Those saying this would be a bust of a rain event for South Florida sure have a good serving of crow coming their way! So far I've picked up nearly 5" of rain bringing the October monthly rainfall total to over 8" inches for the month.

Looks like one of those coastal lows we get along the TX coast every winter with a north to south oriented front to the east side of the low moving east and another front advancing north through south Florida currently.

I think the Key West Low is starting to take off now and develop banding. You can see it has now connected a band with the Bahamas/Cuba moisture and is bringing it across S.Fla. I also see some smaller bands trying to form closer to center. I think we will be in for a wet and gusty night with heavy fooding if those bands strengthen and start to sit in train pattern.
