Um if you expect this thing to be at this intensity 2-4 days from now I'm not sure what to tell you.
I was speaking wind wise, the winds have been pretty underwhelming on the streams in watching.
It has been well established and thoroughly forecasted that surge and rain were the primary threats with Florence.
Wind was a much more significant threat as recently as this Afternoon.

Although I have been a hurricane forecaster since 1980 that only means I've been wrong lots of times.

The better comparison to 'ol Flo is Ike. Ask the Bolivar Peninsula if the storm was only a 2.
Can anyone see what Ike's pressure was as it arrived in Galveston Bay?

Re: ATL: FLORENCE - Hurricane - Discussion
As a longtime member of these forums I have a mother near Jacksonville, a sister at myrtle beach 3 blocks from the ocean (she refused to evacuate), and am watching New Bern which I called home when I had my 2nd child currently is being flooded... that now adult child happened to be with me in TX during Harvey when the airport shut down from flooding. No it wasn't a fun experience, but I'm taking serious offense to these Harvey vs Florence pissing matches. People's lives are at risk right now and homes are being washed away. Does it really matter to the people being impacted at this moment which one was a bigger/badder hurricane? Please take it to PM if you must. This argument is almost as silly as some peoples responses during Katrina alluding it was a nothing burger compared to forecasts before the levies breached...

Radar images from the past hour makes it look like Florence has gone stationary.

I saw that on the news...in a small radar loop ...it was probably the most prominent burst I have seen her produce in days by far.

Thank you for this post, Pebbles. JasonS posted a couple of pages back asking them to knock it off. There may not be the usual activity level around here right now, but that will change as damage reports come in. Y'all arguing about storm X wind speed vs. storm Y surge need to please find some other way to pass the time. Most of us are in here looking for information on what the storm is doing now and will do in the near future. Many of us have friends and families in the cone. Thanks.

Re: ATL: FLORENCE - Hurricane - Discussion
Unfortunately, Florence doesn't appear to be weakening at all. It looks about as well-organized on radar as I've seen it since it came into range. The recent convective burst isn't helping matters either. This is going to be an absolute disaster. These beaches will not be recognizable to those who see them on a daily basis.
