I'd be willing to bet that there's some sustain hurricane force winds with Gordon.

That green line isn't land, it is the warning box. Still not on landfall.

My family home is right under that nw eyewall. Or was...they live about as far southeast in MS as you can get. Wetlands south of 90 near the ms al line. They left for surge but they know power out already.

I think with that and other obs in post season analysis it will be upgraded to a Cat 1 hurricane with 75 MPH winds at landfall at Pascagoula/Gautier area. Maybe with a graze of Dauphin Island.

Dauphin Island actually isn't under there, it ends further to the East

Even more evidence...

But the anemometer at this station is over 100' above the ground, something to keep in mind.

That would translate to about 60 mph at the surface, although I don't think that is the absolute peak area. I agree with 60 kt for the landfall intensity...I don't see anything at this time to support a hurricane at landfall.

Land probably has something to do with it, but Gordon sure is coming together at the last second. It'll be inland in 20 minutes though.

I understand barrier islands are considered land, but no one lives on those islands. I think it should only count if people live on the islands. Main landfall hasn't happened yet.

Eh, a lot of people live on Dauphin Island. It's a nice place.
