I would not get too complacent about the fact all of the activity is on the south side of the center. The GFS insists the convection will start to wrap around in about 24 hours and into Saturday as the storm approaches the LA coast. This could be a pretty epic rain event for LA and will have to watch NOLA closely.

Looks like the center just south of the Mississippi River heading west.

Looks like a ton of dry air punching into the center, northern side is being completely cleared out. Unfortunately it looks like wringing it all out over the Mississippi.

That is a lot of dry air. Wow. GFS really did a great job seeing this a few days ago. I am wondering if we are seeing Barry at his peak right now. That is too much dry air surrounding the cyclone. He is just holding his own maintaining as a TS, though it is a large, disorganized system. Rain was always the major worry with this system, and that certsinly will.likely be realized this weekend in Louisiana and the Lower MS River Valley region.

Hopefully the dry air can get just a bit farther into the center. That might prevent it from wrapping anything.

I'd personally call it Subtropical Storm Barry right now - it definitely doesn't look very tropical.

There is a long band of weather training down from Huntsville. It looks like it's feeding Barry.

-No (or very little) organized convection
-No distinct LLC
-No tight circulation
-No CDO

I'd say you're right.
