Humberto is enormous! Look at the hurricane in relation to the Southeastern US! Very impressive and beautiful storm.

That maybe wind speed in knots which would make it 120 mph. That seems probable with those kind of pressures.

It has actually been sunny most of the day but it's now overcast and we're getting some heavy but short-lived showers. The wind and surf are both still calm though.

Recon finding winds that support a high end cat 2... and that's just in the NW side of the storm. I easily see this reaching cat 3 tonight.

111 kt 700 mb winds and 98 kt SFMR should be good enough for 100 kt at 00Z I think.

100KT looks alright to me based on SFMR reports of 98KT, but I’d neglect the flight-level winds of 111KT recorded in the southeast quadrant, as SFMR shows surface mixing is rather poor at that side.

Given that it is still over warmer SST for a while yet what do you think the chances of it strengthening to a Cat 4 are?
