A few of the clips I shot down at Ebisu Island with James.

Clearly not the strongest typhoon I've ever shot but it was still a very interesting storm considering the climatology suggests it's a very rare event for Honshu, particularly this late in the season.

It was also very enjoyable exploring the beautiful Izu Peninsula!

I wonder how Hagibis compared to Jebi last year when it comes to wind impact in Japan.

Sustained hurricane-force winds were recorded in Tokyo international airport but still a bit weaker than Jebi.

EX Hagibis has deepened into a powerful hurricane force low in the Bering sea.

Death toll still increasing, most I've seen from a typhoon hitting Japan.

How often do tropical cyclones get to become hurricane force again as an extra tropical cyclone?

Almost feels like cheating...

Graphic warning for viewers:
77-year-old woman falls from helicopter during rescue as Japan hit by strongest storm in 60 years

Very unfortunate incident, but why they were filming it in the first place? There is another video of the incident from a different camera source, is this part of helicopter rescue training, filming every rescue?

Somewhat uncommonly, but also not extremely rare either. There's usually a few cases each year between the NAtl and WPac. Nuri '14 is probably the most spectacular example in the past few years, but the one to really note in history is Typhoon Freida in Ocbober 1962. The system recurved into the mid-latitudes and became extratropical, and then underwent bombogenesis along the NWUS coast. It's commonly known as the Columbus Day Storm there.
