Conditions along the north shore of Maui should be deteriorating now.

That trajectory would be just enough to clear the islands to the north but would drag the southern eyewall over Maui and Honolulu counties.

It would be close enough to give them in Maui and real good whack from Douglas. I am definitely very concerned for Oahu for sure!!

Yes we still have the wind turbines on the north shore, I’m not sure what the protocol for a hurricane would be with those.

I think they shut them down if the winds are forecast to exceed 50kts

The eastern eyewall has completely opened in the past hour - not surprising because the system is now embedded in cool-air strato-cu. More likely storm surge on the north-facing coasts is the biggest concern:

Are there any good links to webcams on any of the north or east facing beaches? Haven't been able to locate many. TIA.

That’s a gap in the radar beam, the eastern eyewall is closed.

Hurricane Douglas Tropical Cyclone Update
NWS Central Pacific Hurricane Center Honolulu HI EP082020
1000 AM HST Sun Jul 26 2020

...1000 AM HST POSITION UPDATE...
...DANGEROUS HURRICANE DOUGLAS CLOSING IN ON THE HAWAIIAN
ISLANDS...

The eye of Hurricane Douglas is being tracked by the North
Kohala and Molokai WSR-88D radars as the tropical cyclone
moves west-northwest, east of Maui County. Due to the distance
from the radars, the radars are sampling the upper portions of
Douglas. Hurricane Hunters from the Air Force 53rd Weather
Reconnaissance Squadron continue to conduct missions
through Douglas and have observed Douglas experiencing southerly
vertical wind shear. This has been factored into the radar position
fix below.

SUMMARY OF 1000 AM HST...2000 UTC...INFORMATION
----------------------------------------------
LOCATION...21.1N 155.5W
ABOUT 160 MI...255 KM E OF HONOLULU HAWAII
ABOUT 65 MI...105 KM ENE OF KAHULUI HAWAII
MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS...90 MPH...150 KM/H
PRESENT MOVEMENT...WNW OR 285 DEGREES AT 16 MPH...26 KM/H
MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE...987 MB...29.15 INCHES

Good news for Maui is this is gaining some latitude but Oahu certainly isn't in the clear if it were to continue on its track.

From my analysis of the radar, the eyewall should either just miss or barely graze the north shore of Maui, but miss the mountains. Molokai should get the southern eyewall in a few hours. It's setting up for landfall in northern Oahu.

Is that because of Haleakala blocking the flow on the western side of the storm?
