Winds and rain are significantly picking up where I live, and a tornado warning has been issued.

They might be fun, but atmospheric physics might as well be astrophysics for me. Aric has a degree or masters or doctorate in fluid dynamics. They say when you get it, you get it. My weakest possible understanding in life is spacial reasoning. I'm the wrong person to be discussing this, but like I said, I do understand the concept even if I can only barely imagine it in 3-D.

With Dover and Mt. Holly's radar sites out, I'm not sure if most of the rainfall is north of New Jersey or not. It looks to me like Eastern NYS, Vermont and maybe Quebec will see the most rainfall still.

A *hurricane-force* wind gust of 78 mph just reported near Battery Park

Sun is out with fast moving clouds from southwest-northeast, opposite of what it was a couple hours ago. Winds have died down significantly. It's almost as if we never got hit by a tropical storm other than the countless trees down in my backyard and power lines to my north.

The Dyess AFB radar, near Abilene, TX, goes down occasionally, almost always on a severe weather day that threatens Dallas/Fort Worth…

Had some very gusty winds (around 50-60 mph id have to guess) and bands of heavy rain come through here in NJ. Lots of twigs and leaves snapped littered the ground and power went out briefly. A tree also came down onto a power line not far from my house and part of the wire was on fire but didn’t ignite. Isaias is the most significant impact from a TC up here IMO since Sandy in 2012. Almost was basically a Irene but much faster and the storm was smaller then Irene.

Very large tree branch down and just barely missed my garage. I think I may have lost a tomato plant and maybe a few green beans. Several other trees have damaged branches that may yet come down because the gusts are still kicking. My parents are on the east end under a tornado warning with that nasty cell that just came ashore near Hampton Bays not long ago.

I would think the NHC would continue advisories until the center is into Canada if it is declared extratropical (and all warnings required would remain).

This thing is looking pretty extratropical. As soon as the center passes over anywhere it leaves clear skies in its wake.

My SO's parents live north of Hartford, CT right in the center of a tornado warning. They are okay but reported a lot of trees down in their neighborhood. Fortunately they have a basement and on high ground so flooding is not a concern.

There were thankfully no tornadoes in my area. Plenty of twigs and small branches scattered about, and one large branch that fell off of a neighbor’s tree and got stuck upright in the ground. Sustained winds and gusts were quite high around 2:30-3:30, and while I didn’t have the equipment to get direct measurements, I wouldn’t be surprised if 50-60 mph winds were recorded near my area in SW CT. The power has been on an off for a while but hasn’t been out for more than 10 minutes since around 2:00.

Some pretty impressive surge damage video out of Oak Island on TWC. Cars busted out of garages of beachfront homes and pushed into the street/partially buried in sand.

Power just came back on, after a sweltering day of 95+. Don't know what it topped out at yet, but it definitely picked up power as it was coming on shore. Oak Island took a bad beat, and the riverfront in Southport and 2 marinas did there as well. But tomorrow is another day in paradise.

Everyone up north that is dealing with Isaias, good luck and keep your head down.

Thanks to Steve and others who tried to explained this phenomenon.

I'm going to accept that there's reasons I became a EE, and not a fluid dynamics physicist.

Isaias made an excellent case to be retired!

Definately very intense for the Ellington, Ct area and my girlfriend. Her parents took shelter in their basement, fortunately they are ok with minimal damage. It seemed like the tornadoes spawned were more intense than the typical tropical cyclone spin ups.

A lot of clean up and damage assessment left for this week.
