...GINORMOUS TEDDY TO BRING DESTRUCTIVE WAVES, HEAVY RAIN AND
STRONG WINDS TO PORTIONS OF NOVA SCOTIA TODAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY...

Has "ginormous" ever been used in an advisory before? I always want to use that word myself but I never seem to do so.

Ginormous is a very accurate description for the current state of Teddy

Pressure looks to be down to 950 or so.

An extratropical cyclone with sub-950mb pressure in mid to late September is extremely rare for this part of the world. I can’t recall any precedent.

And now Earth has a Great Red Spot. Hopefully it doesn't last 150 years too.

Igor may be the closest precedent - it was 950 when it hit Newfoundland as it was in the middle of ET (but still was a hurricane at the time).

It's gargantuan. Massive. Humungous. Titanic.

I swear I had remembered posting about something like that previously, so I searched my own posts, and found it (plus, someone else had beaten me to the punch by less than a minute). It was Hurricane Leslie in 2018.

Ha! It was Eric Blake that time as well.

Well, he had a good run. Finished with over 25 ACE, became the second major and Cat 4 of the year, led to a ton of interesting recon flights, and earned a spot among the top five largest Atlantic hurricanes.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

With Beta dissipating,Teddy nearly post-tropical and Paulette soon to follow suit, NHC ought to be hitting the bars shortly. Well deserved.

Edit: Oops, forgot somebody has to stay sober and issue advisories on Lowell.

It looks like there's still some deep convection over the center...are we sure this is post-tropical?

Well, it's certainly not fully tropical, and the NHC has to choose one or the other.

Should have want subtropical but of course they never do in reverse. That sustained central convection is something tropical ;)

I'd have gone with subtropical, but it isn't my call.

Seems like Teddy took one last sip of Gulf stream before he got too far north. Doesn't look completely extratropical to me.

It turns out Teddy isn’t as large as I thought. However, it’s still easily one of the largest TCs in the Atlantic. Its TS wind field is 852 miles across from NE to SW, and the 12ft wave field is 1,864 miles across along the same axis.

Heavy Teddy.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

The storm doesn't look post tropical to me. At the very least it's subtropical.
