It's almost like 2020 heard people talking about the lack of majors, hurricanes and ACE at the start of October and was like: 'are you challenging me?'. Just to show how crazy this is: if Theta becomes a hurricane it would mean there have been as many hurricanes in the last 30 days as there were in the 30 days before that (Paulette, Sally, Teddy, Delta vs. Epsilon, Zeta, Eta and now possibly Theta). So in terms of the # of hurricanes we're basically still at this year's September level activity (which btw wasn't just your average September but also a record breaking active month) and it's November.

ASCAT is the best reason why Theta might be the 3rd ever Subtropical Hurricane

Possibly but I have never seen them call a subtropical hurricane. For instance in 2016 Nicole was said to have subtropical characteristics while it was a large C1 but they opted not to call it a S1. Similarly the same thing was done with Alex (went from SS straight to C1).

Alex has tropical characteristics with a center just before becoming a hurricane & Nicole was becoming a EX tropical cyclone as a hurricane.

The poll thread that was put up a few weeks ago on how many storms do we think will form in November... I put down 3 storms in November, at the time I posted my guess on number of systems, I must be honest and say that I did not actually think it may occur (it hasn't yet)....but it seems as if it's a possibility...

No, actually Ice, I am referring to the 2K poll we took, on how many storms each member thought may occur in November, do you remember that?...

Would they go 65 kt while still subtropical? That wouldn't be a "hurricane" though, since by definition, a hurricane is tropical? (Although they'd probably find a way to fudge it...)

It's 2020... Subtropical Hurricane Theta would fit perfectly in this season lol
