Here we go again, another potential Caribbean bomb in the making. I think pretty much all models are in agreement over something forming in the next 5 days, but track and thus also intensity are still very uncertain. Some models go straight into CA (even further south than Nicaragua) and thus don't have that much time to strengthen. But especially GFS has already on a few occassions hinted at the possibility of a system impacting Nicaragua/Honduras or Yucatan, which would have a lot more time to strengthen. Either way, we'll hopefully get some of the HWRF and HMON runs soon which might help to get a better idea of just how serious this one might become.

Welp here we go... Yet again. We'll have to see of it gets tangled up with that other wave or if it's able to separate itself and bomb out. Either way, I hope recon gets their issues fixed, otherwise this might be another storm that we don't know it's true intensity.

I am in no way a professional. Take what I say with a grain of salt as I could be totally wrong. Please refer to the NHC, NWS, or SPC for official information.

First we thought Zeta would be the last Caribbean system, then we thought Eta would be the last one...will Iota FINALLY finish up the Caribbean activity streak, or will 2020 get another one in?

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

The fact that this could be "Hurricane Iota" is something I never would have imagined. We'll see if the "I curse" also applies to Greek letters.

ASCAT picking up to 40 knots, is that related to 98L? If it is, then why I don't see a circulation? :roll:

November averages less than one named storm a year, yet here we are...some Novembers don't have any Atlantic TC activity at all (most recently 2006, 2012, 2014 and 2018).

THIS IS MADNESS! The NHC may have to stop doing certain things until this cursed season is over!

NHC: This is too much. :break:

Wasn’t Isaias also a 98L?

2005 has the record with 3, but none of them reached hurricane strength during November (Epsilon went on to become a hurricane in December). 2001 also had 3 named storms active in November, but Michelle formed in October. It's still unclear whether Eta will be considered an October or November storm, since it became a TS at 00z on November 1 (which was October 31 in EST). Regardless, this November has already produced the most ACE of any November since 2001, and if you include Eta as a November storm we could easily tie 2005's record (with stronger storms and more ACE).

This month is very anomalous, just like July 2005 was.

1931 and 2005 are the only two seasons with 3 storms that formed in November. So if 98L becomes Iota 2020 also joins that list. No season has had more than 3 storms form in November so if somehow another storm forms during the next 20 days besides Iota we would break the November record.

A tropical wave located over the eastern Caribbean Sea is producing
disorganized showers and thunderstorms. The wave is expected to
move westward into more conducive environmental conditions over the
next several days, and a tropical depression is likely to form late
this week or this weekend when the wave reaches the central or
western Caribbean Sea.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...10 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...high...70 percent.

This looks closer to becoming a TC than we think. Is it November 10...or September 10?
