Before even an official website !!! :)
If this EWRC does occur this will be a massive eye. maybe 50-60 NM

Huh? I haven't seen a microwave pass in a while so I'm not entirely sure, but I don't think an EWRC has started yet. I could be wrong though.

Read the above message above my last post.

I totally whiffed on that one. Whoops. Read right over it somehow lol

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

Impressive AMSR2 pass clearly showing a concentric eyewall structure.

Signs of ERC have began to manifest on latest satellite images as well.

Man as huge as this eye is going to be, this EWRC may give the majority of the islands hurricane-force winds. Or at least a good chunk of it. I hope they are doing everything they can to prepare for this beast...

Just absolutely insane that we first get the latest forming Category 5 storm in the Atlantic in mid-November and now we have the earliest forming Category 5 storm in the Southwest Pacific less than a month later in mid-December which is around the equivalent to a Category 5 Atlantic Hurricane in July a la Emily 2005 or a Cateogry 5 East Pacific Hurricane in June a la Ava 1973 and Celia 2010...
:double:

Incredibly rare event. Interestingly enough, 1973, 2010, and now late 2020 were all either La Niña or transitioning to La Niña, which make the occurrences even more strange.

2020 is one crazy year

(snip)
Twin cyclones are bearing down on Pacific islands, with Fiji’s main island likely to be directly hit by a category five storm for the second time this year.

Tonga and Fiji were bracing for potentially catastrophic damage as tropical cyclones Zazu and Yasa intensified off their coastlines on Wednesday.

Zazu, which is north-east of Tonga’s capital Nuku’alofa, is rated a category one system, with winds of up to 90km/h (55mph).

But Yasa, about 550km (340 miles) north-west of Fiji’s main island Viti Levu, has already been upgraded to a category five cyclone, with winds of up to 270km/h. It is expected to make landfall over Fiji late on Thursday or early on Friday.

Even with the concentric eyewalls, Yasa is still an incredibly impressive system on IR imagery.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Now the second most intense TC of the year with a central pressure of 906 mb. Could beat Goni's 905

I am by no means a professional. DO NOT look at my forecasts for official information or make decisions based on what I post.

Goal: to become a registered expert over tropical and subtropical cyclones.

Increasing probability of another EWRC, 1st indications already starting to be seen in latest microwave imagery. Could be a good thing, lowering intensity at landfall/CPA to Fiji. Image
