I always find this kind of presentation very evil-looking:

Well either the eye is expanding on its own or the hourglass shape it is resembling is ?

It's high cirrus clouds covering the eye. Just means it's going off lol

I guess time will tell but a system this small if it wants to get much stronger will have to expand its wind field.

I wonder how willing NHC would be to upgrade a storm to Cat 5 with satellite data alone

I could see this system moving a little South of West, if you see the eye pointing SW, which sometimes indicates the next direction the storm will be moving. However I could be completely wrong like I am a whole lot of times. This storm is just a beauty and I'm hoping it doesn't hit any land, but starts looking a little less likely.

Wow, what a beast. So, I'm the new guy here - a New England Yankee, transplanted to SW Nebraska - about as far away from the hurricane hunting grounds as a guy could be. Been lurking on this board for a few years, and decided to join the party. Always been fascinated with violent storms, since I was a kid. I've lived through a couple of hurricanes, back in the 80's and early 90s - but nothing catastrophic. Anyway, I'll just shut up now, and read the pros

Looks to be taking off now. -70c ring trying to close off and a bigger eye trying to carve out

And now -70C ring has completely wrapped around and eye starts to clear again. This is the time when watching 1-minute floaters feels like watching 10-minute ones because the satellite appearance just improves so quickly.

I guess time will tell but a system this small if it wants to get much stronger will have to expand its wind field.

But small systems can ramp up and down easily though, the best examples probably being Andrew and Dorian...

Fresh AMSR pass. I'd bet Sam is nearing CAT4 intensity now

Unlikely unless the storm can sustain cloud tops W or colder for a half of a degree around the eye (on Black Dvorak color scheme) and the eye temperature itself reaches 9C.
