So is this the first time a system is named when it's over land?

I just noticed that not only does the latest forecast track have Claudette keeping tropical status all the way across, but she regains TS status even before emerging back over water?

Apparently nobody told her how this works. :sadly: :roflmao:

Claudette because it’s partially hybrid broke some of the typical rules. I’m wondering if it organizing while it was coming up in the subtropics could be an indication of what some later systems do. Maybe not? I saw they had flooding in Slidell pretty bad. That’s hopefully over for them. Lots of tornadoes out ahead of the system, so y’all watch out in GA, AL and NCFL

Looks like that eastern "tail" is doing work as expected as is drags though the panhandle. More linear development offshore could yield an extra scoop for some of the same areas.

I noticed that too. Is there a "brown ocean effect" type thing there that I'm not aware of, because I'm having trouble figuring that out otherwise.

It seems like a similar situation to Allison though that storm was Subtropical.

Look in the Discussion from NHC, they give an explanation why it may regain tropical storm again over land.

Likely due to baroclinic forcing.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

How interesting. For the first time convection is forming near and around the center of the llc.

Normally a lurker here. I noticed the questions about Claudette reforming over land and also earlier on about her being named after landfall. How much would the over saturated soil from the rains this springs affect something like this? Might it be like some of the storms that have in the past strengthened as they have gone over Florida?

All observations are in Tecumseh, OK unless otherwise noted.

Winter posts are focused mainly for Oklahoma & Texas.

Take any of my forecasts with a grain of salt, refer to the NWS, SPC, and NHC for official information

Pretty significant tornado threat from this system continues. Several injuries in AL and there is now a new watch up until 6am EDT.

I am in no way a professional. Take what I say with a grain of salt as I could be totally wrong. Please refer to the NHC, NWS, or SPC for official information.
