Making record landfall now.

IMD records since 1891, to give a perspective of how rare this event is!

So just catching up to this storm last night, this storm is making me wonder: The serious scenario of a cyclone managing to make it all the way into the Persian Gulf. It will have to clip the UAE but if any bit of rainfall reaches there, that could bring historic flooding in Dubai, Qatar, and Bahrain!

The Omani town of Suwaiq on the northern coast just recorded a 6-hr rainfall total of 116mm! The town has an average annual rainfall of 109mm according to Oman's Met Department.

...and... IMD says landfall intensity was 50-55 kts. They verified their forecast!

The 24-hr rainfall total at Suwaiq (ending at Oct 4 00Z) has reached 268.4 mm — 2 to 3 years' worth of rain in that area!

I lived in Muscat for two years and only saw rain maybe twice and very briefly. This area is flat towards the sea but between there and UAE is a pretty significant mountain range. The ground is very herd and rocky and there will be substantial runoff as well so I would expect even more flooding.
