Re: WPAC: KOINU - Typhoon
To everyone's surprise, Koinu has rebounded from the effects of shear and looks very healthy today.

Bad news for Taiwan. But quite a bit of good news for the storm chasers who went to Taiwan to chase Koinu. Josh, for one, is known to chase only the significant cyclones but he decided to chase Koinu even though it looked like shear would limit Koinu's intensity to <Cat 2. It seems that he just misses the thrill of flying out to chase a storm on the other side of the world. But now that Koinu is looking unexpectedly intense, he's in for a treat.

Re: WPAC: KOINU - Typhoon
Min pressure recorded by the NTU-2 buoy was about 944 mb at the edge of the eyewall (the actual buoy position is slightly south than I thought).

Re: WPAC: KOINU - Typhoon
pressure at the main station of Lanyu Island dropped to a minimum of 900.3 hPa at 22:40
That translates to sea level pressure between 933 and 934 hPa.
Pressure suddenly jumped by 8 hPa as it enters the Eye - that suggests that the minimum pressure is likely caused by a mesovortex

Re: WPAC: KOINU - Typhoon
I am going to estimate 125 knots for intensity...If deeper convection can continue to wrap around the eye and the eye can warm this has a chance to possibly strengthen to 130-135knots.
