Re: ATL: BRET - Tropical Storm - Discussion
Bret's center appears to have "escaped" the convection. It's racing out ahead. Actually, not far from Barbados but nothing is associated with it. That "eddy" recon found well southwest of the convection wasn't an eddy, after all. It was Bret's actual center.

Oof, Bret’s really starting to decouple now.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Look at the center detaching from convection.

Clearly on a quick weakening trend now, but what an impressive storm for June. Hopefully impacts on the islands are minimal.

I am in no way a professional. Take what I say with a grain of salt as I could be totally wrong. Please refer to the NHC, NWS, or SPC for official information.

If what I see is the detached center, it appears to be heading straight for Barbados. I wonder
if the convection to its west will move that way as well.

Barbados is reporting NE wind 17 kts with a gust to 45 kts on the outer edge of that center, which is only 35 miles ENE of the island. No squalls associated.

I'm on the south-west of the island (Barbados) and it was quite gusty a while ago... Now it's just a bit breezy with steady but light rain the last 30 minutes or so.

I genuinely would like to know what made them change their mind this late in the game

Re: ATL: BRET - Tropical Storm - Discussion
Could use a recon in there to measure winds now. Looks terrible on satellite now. Maybe 40-45 kts, if that. Center not as well defined, either. NHC probably issued the TS warning for Barbados due to the relocation of the center southwest and possibly that 45kt gust reported a few hours ago.

The forecast said Bret would be past his peak by the time he reached the islands.
