I think Xangsane was a strong Category 4 at landfall on the Philippines.

Or do you mean Vietnam? Xangsane landfall as a Category 1 on Vietnam.

In Vietnam, when Xangsane landfall, wind reached 38m/s at Danang Station on 1st Oct.

Significant weakening. Nothing left of convection on IR - just a small band of maybe -20 to -30°C.
