#1 Postby HurricaneBill » Mon Jun 25, 2007 11:19 pm

40 years ago, one of western Europe's worst tornado outbreaks occured. The reason this outbreak is so notable is because several of the tornadoes were violent.

At least 11 tornadoes were reported:

June 24, 1967 Juterbog, Brandenburg, Germany (Rating unknown)

June 24, 1967 Davenescourt, France F3

June 24, 1967 Palluel, France F5 (6 dead, 30 injured)

June 24, 1967 Pommereuil, France F4 (2 dead, 50 injured)

June 24, 1967 Argoules, France F2

June 25, 1967 Northern France F2

June 25, 1967 Northern France F0

June 25, 1967 Northern France F1

June 25, 1967 Oostmalle, Belgium >F2 (2 dead)

June 25, 1967 Chaam, Netherlands F3 (2 dead)

June 25, 1967 Tricht, Netherlands F3 (5 dead)

Here's a photo of the Tricht tornado:

The tornado over Oostmalle, Chaam and Tricht was probably one and the same.
A thunderstorm with lots of hail was moving NNE. On the SE side of this storm a tornado touched down (marked as 'WINDHOOS' with bold dashes).

The storm was investigated by the KNMI (article in Dutch language):

The pictures above are from that article.

I'll have a look through the UK archives later. In terms of numbers of tornadoes 11 in one outbreak is well below the record but yes some pretty strong TNs there.

A couple more events that could be added to that list.

25th June 1967 Didcot, England T3
25th June 1967 off Whitstable, England T? - Either a squall or a tornado but unknown.

I think I read in an article that it was probably a tornado family. It was noted the three tornadoes were produced by the same supercell.
