But very few will even post if it a Southeast coast storm. You can look back over the years and when one come our way they don't bother. But the ones who does I thank them for keeping us up dated. I did come on and post then learned to just sit back a read.

What can we add that you don't already get from the NHC et al?

I guess here at Storm2k we all appreciate the "human element". Little hints and such from others who have already experienced the fury of these storms. Also, for those of us who HAVE been involved in some of these damaging storms, there is a HUGE support system.
Jordan, you are very new so unless you go WAY back in the archieves you wouldn't know, but during for example Katrinia, many of the members here kept track of one another, searched for one another if they did not check in, actually a check in system that I assume is still in place. (in case of a huge storm) NHC does not offer this

That's pretty awesome. I was monitoring things during Katrina, but didn't really have anyone else to work with.

This is a great place to come and learn i don't talk a lot, or post much but i do read a ton here. I have learned so much here. Maybe some day I'll know enough to add as well to all hear. I appreciate everything and everyone. I see a lot on TV and some that is hyped up. I come here and get more of whats really going on. That you will not find most any where else.

Hello,

I have been reading this forum for years, since back in the days when it was I think Lowe's? and Palm Beach Post for awhile, wasn't it? It has seemed to get better and better over the years. There is so much information here! I admit, most of it goes way over my head, but I try to learn as much as I can, and appreciate all the expert opinions found here.

Storm2K: the site for storm information without the media excitement created for ratings. It's good to log back in for the heart of the season.

Hello everyone :ggreen:

My name is Sean. I've been a big fan of this whole weather dealie ever since I survived Andrew in 1992.

Of course I'm watching 92L pretty closely since it's relative to my interests.

I'll see you guys around :ggreen:

I've been a lurker since the days of the Lowes board but thought I'd introduce myself to you'all. I live in Indiana but my parents live in Bonita Beach Florida so I do have a huge interest in the tropical activity each year.

My name is Dave and for work I'm a weather operations specialist (tornado's and severe weather) for the local emergency management agency, 18 yr vet working as severe weather net control for EMA/RACES (amateur radio) for our area/region and went through hurricane Donna in 1960 while living with my grandparents, so hurricanes aren't new to me.

Thanks go everyone thru the years for their dedication, information, and helpfulness to us who don't live in the areas affected by tropical systems but who do have people in them.

Thank you for the 'welcome aboard' and I'll be in the discussions when we hit the area that I work best in.

I learned about the site from weather watching on some other sites, and it took just 2 visits for me to realise that I'd found a place for storm watchers/ chasers like myself. I appreciate the "cool vibes" of the members as well as the input of the professional mets. I am officially hooked!! :D Thank you....

I have been here since about 2003. After running my post count up quickly, I now rarely post.

I will answer the primary question posed earlier about why we should come here for information. The information here and the analysis leads the major news networks, including TWC, by between 12 and 24 hours. This is critical time if you have special needs relatives.

The drawback is that you have to supress the excitement factor a little since the additional lead factors come with a little more uncertainty and thus a few more false alarms.

Long time lurker types are hard to spot, but there are quite a few of us- especially when storms start up!

Okay, I guess I'll bite. I've managed to lurk so effectively, that I actually completely forgot that I registered in the first place - hence a year with no posts. I was reminded that I joined up when I got an email from the admins about the site hack today

Anyway, I'm an Master's student in Meteorology at the University of Oklahoma. Despite growing up in Wisconsin, it was actually the hurricane season of 1995 that got me into meteorology in the first place. Use s2k mostly as a way to find out about new sources of data (big fan of the recon threads), and check my thinking against what the pros offer.

Now that I know I'm registered, I guess I'll have to start participating
