Tully residents reveal horror of cyclone's wrath
http://www.smh.com.au/environment/weath ... 1ae48.html
As Cyclone Yasi tore through the small north Queensland town of Tully, Pat Brauer and her husband huddled together in their bathroom, petrified at the storm’s menacing roar.
‘‘The noise it was like a train coming, it was absolutely frightening,’’ she said.
‘‘It was just unbelievable when the windows popped.
‘Larry and all the other cyclones, they were nothing compared to this.’’
Tully has been decimated by last night's cyclone, with a local councillor estimating up to half the town's homes have lost their roofs.
Cassowary Coast councillor Ross Sorbello said the worst of Yasi had now passed, revealing a trail of destruction.

REMARKS:
Tropical Cyclone Yasi remains a symmetric system as it moves across the north
Queensland interior. Convection has weakend around the sytem and cloud top
temperatures have warmed since Yasi crossed the coast earlier this morning.
Yasi is expected to maintain a west southwesterly track as it moves towards
central Australia over the next couple of days. Although the cyclone is rapidly
weakening over land strong and gusty condtions are expected to develop to the
south of the system with mixing of low level winds to the surface during the
day.
Despite the cyclone being situated well inland gale force winds are continuing
in coastal locations between Cardwell and Ayr. Enhanced convergence in this area
is producing heavy rain.
