Miles City, Montana was 111F today... an all-time high, breaking the previous record, 110F.

The closest I can find is Norman Wells.

The record high for June there is 33.5C/92.3F and the all time record is 35C/95F.

LOL! I wasn't asking that question to you but its good information anyways  . I did however have a couple other questions (for you Scott) and they are: 1. Is the few remaining patches of snow that you hiked to a month ago completely gone now everywhere? 2. Do you smell smoke right now :double: ?

Nicko999 wrote:A lot of places in the Northwest Territories were above 30C so the temperature is accurate.

Ok, I actually just checked the records and climate entries for that spot and its warmer than I thought it would be overall. Those 35ºC temps. did break records but the margin was just about 3ºC over (that's still impressive)...here I was thinking that the NWT didn't get good stuff like that  . tropicana can add those later to the lists.

While checking Fort Good Hope NWT, I wondered what Canada's most northern place is doing as far as temperatures which is Alert Nunavut. I don't think its that far from the North Pole and well within the arctic circle I would imagine. Right now they are hovering just above freezing with lows below that. Its fairly constant without much shift but I did spot a 10ºC day on June 15 2012 and thought that was quite the spike there. I checked and that is a new record for them beating the previous record by 2ºC (old was around 8.2ºC or something). Their climate must be warming up quickly as well by now...

This latest record shattering heat wave in the plains/south is taking on some of the insane characteristics of the Great March Heat Wave of this year in terms of the all time monthly records being smashed in various locations and repeating records that are "competing" with fresh records from just hours ago (1 or 2 days ago). Chalk up another insane heat wave for 2012 :D .

A lot of sighs coming from Texas, turn those sighs into cheers! :sun: :sun: Send it up here, I love the heat and Debby must too because she is helping to enhance it for everyone!

CNN had breaking news of the Firestorm in CO which was their top story in the evening...wow finally some attention on this. The Firestorm is moving at 2000 feet per hour and the RH is at 3! Really challenging 2002's fires now....

A likely historical heatwave is going to move into Ohio valley and parts west in the coming days (same regime were talking about now) and from various models the temperatures could not only break records for days, but challenge all time monthly records and even all time records!! I'm very interested to see how this all turns out and why not go all the way? Of course this is going to be a dry heat and create more drought but with all these potent shots of heat since May the writing was on the wall. IMBY, we should get a normal heatwave but I'm getting jealous seeing those south of me getting forecasts of the BIG FOUR O in ºC! :) The most awesome news of all (for me) is that the models are starting to "lock-in" the heat and it just keeps going until the end of the model runs :D :D I couldn't be happier at this point, this is exactly what I wanted as my dreams from May are starting to become reality. Things are starting to look more like the dirty 30s because of all the incredible heat that was experienced around NA coming into focus. Maybe my 1911 fantasy will happen with epic heat domes...

 Interesting, I checked and that's not a record (seems to become much higher rapidly) but still 6ºC above average.

There's always some snow in the mountains, but this year will be pretty barren by late summer for sure.

2. Do you smell smoke right now ?

There is some smoke in the air here, but it's from the Utah fires. We're far west and the wind blows west to east, so we won't get any of the smoke from the fires farther east.

A lot of places in the Northwest Territories were above 30C so the temperature is accurate.

Ok, I actually just checked the records and climate entries for that spot and its warmer than I thought it would be overall.

Yes, seems weird, but it's true. 24 hours daylight + continental location away from oceanic influence = warmer record temperatures than expected. Even Siberia gets that hot sometimes. Winter temps in either location are extremely cold.

Is anyone going to start a thread about the pending repetitive record heat in the US east (NY, NJ, DEL, PA, DC, VA?) I just looked at some historical data for specific dates in early July and we might break date specific records set 100 years ago. Very worrisome with our population density and drain on electric grid , etc., most important on individuals health.

93F today; a tie for the record last set 1990 (edited from before because the temp climbed enough to tie the record).

57F this morning at the Craig Airport was the warmest ever June morning.

I know there is always snow in the mountains, I meant where you were in those comparison pictures posted. Lets say that specific elevation level.

At tweet from TWN:

*LyndsayTWN - Feeling #hot hot hot! More than 1,000 temperatures records have been broken in the US this week. 251 records were smashed Tuesday alone!

tropicana that list you just posted isn't even close to the amount right (today and yesterday's records)?

i know cycle...it's virtually impossible for me to get all the record temperatures, esp these days when there are hundreds of stations and so much available data..i just try to do the main ones, but i still might miss a few.
'
also, the temp records they are talking about include ALL temperature records, which includes numerous record lows on Wedensday especially .... but even just taking in the record highs, they are also talking about the record high minimum temperature records that have been set nightly for many many cites which i regularly don't post ( but i do keep a record still haha)

I see. I haven't been up there since the photos were taken, but I would expect that there isn't much snow left. Maybe a stray snowbank or two (if any), but that's probably it.

I remember you posted that during that Great March Heat Wave but your size of the list fluctuates in an undermined way and what parameters does your list follow e.g Only a certain type of reporting site, above a certain temperature, geographical sampling, etc.

Many sites in Ohio valley reached the century mark with St.Louis at 108ºF and I heard Detroit DID briefly get to 100ºF at 5:45 pm! Let me just say, It's about time! :D Windsor ON is at 35ºC with a humidex of 44 :onfire: .

I was just noticing today that the mountains here above Salt Lake City I can only see a few stray snowbanks up top.

I've seen years where there's significant snow cover at the tops of those mountains well into August.

We haven't had quite the same level of intense heat here in Salt Lake City but this is still the warmest June in years (3 100F+ temps already and a good chance to make it again the last 2 days).

I couldn't believe this when I saw Windsor ON observations at that time:

Image

That is right up there with some of the obs I saw on July 21, 2011. It must be brutal right now in that region and I can't imagine it being that hot at night. Right now its at 26ºC feeling like 35 which is still very impressive at this time of night and if it can level off at this value I'll be even more impressed. Another interesting change is the air quality went from very good to moderate  .

Yes; surprisingly, even Craig has been as warm as Salt Lake (normally we're much cooler), at least during the day:

http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.ph ... 111.89&e=0

http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.ph ... 107.55&e=1

We've been drier too. We normally get more snow than SLC, but very similar precipitation.

SLC has been dry with 6.52 inches of precip so far this year, but we're only at 1.58 inches so far(!).

94F on June 28 (yesterday) was a new record here as well.

#13 record high for the month and #52 for the year. The last date that was not a record high was June 21.

Washington DC Breaks Temp Record: "The National Weather Service says that just before 3 p.m., it was 104 degrees at Reagan National Airport just outside the city. That beats the record of 101 set in 1934."
