New England Winter 2012-2013

#1 Postby cycloneye » Tue Sep 18, 2012 9:28 pm

It looks like this winter will be more colder and with plenty of snow in that part of the U.S than last winter that was above normal in temperatures and lack of snowstorms. I say 4 big ones.

I voted 3 one per each month of the DJF time frame :cheesy:. I think for New England though it will depend on the NAO. It's been negative so it's possible nor'easters will be more common this winter. If there is a west based -NAO near the Canadian Maritimes the storms will go out to sea and rake the Mid-Atlantic states with those crazy gradients where philly gets like 20 and NYC 0 etc lol. But a more easterly -NAO will bend them up the coast through Maine.

4 makes sense to me. If we get the expected El nino winter with the normal storm track there should be good potential for Nor'easters this year.

A sign of things to come for the New England states this upcomming winter? The models have been showing a strong low moving up the coast but there not appears to be plenty of cold air to provoke snow at this time.

:uarrow:  Nick Wxman57 hates both cold (as much as you do) and snow so you aren't going to have a hope getting him to retract the above.

Winter is coming :froze: :cold: :froze: Is it the East that will suffer with it this year? :D :cheesy: )

That track of above average snowfall would suggest they are thinking Nor' Easters will be forming, and will be riding right up the coastline. The colder air and precip will be pushed farther inland that way. If the Nor' Easters stay further out to sea, then the coastal Carolina's could see some snow.
