Erika sure took it out of me, thought we were in for something.

But anyways, Fred is seriously one for the record books concerning the Cape Verde Islands being impacted by a very very rare hurricane!

Overall this doesn't surprise me as much as it could since the waves over Africa to date have been VERY ROBUST and potent looking it's once they pass the Cape Verde Islands when they struggle and cave in to the hostile conditions.

Are you being sarcastic?

Yes let's completely look over this storm that could potentially be a record breaking event for the Cape Verde islands.

I'm talking about after it passes the Cape Verde islands, not before silly..........

I'm talking about "AFTER" it passes the Cape Verde islands, not before silly.. obviously nobody wants it to strengthen before it gets to the Cape Verde Islands. ........

matching up the microwave center from earlier to the current sat pics, it looks like Fred is being sheared or it has turned more westward.

if it is sheared, its more of a 50 kt not a 60 kt cyclone. if it has turned westward, this could be a cane for the capital of Cabo Verde

Classic example of a symmetrical looking storm: shear beauty!

The center on the 0145Z IR frame looks to be a shade south of 15*N and a shade east of 22*W, not smack dab in the center of the CDO, but not at the northern edge either.

^ Yeah I noticed in several microwave and infrared images that the storm has or is forming a tiny eye. Might be stronger than we think which isn't good for Cape Verde.

Could this actually rapidly intensify into a strong, even major, hurricane?

Latest pass showing a rare sight this far east in the Atlantic. History being made here. First time a TC of hurricane intensity is approaching the Cape Verde islands.

Kinda sad only 9 pages for a historic system whereas Erika got up to 160 pages...I know location is important but i would be excited for both not just one...

Someone posted earlier 200 thousand.

Actually, its 2015 population is estimated to be around 525,000.

Too bad there's no weather radar that I know of out there, it would be interesting to see directly what's going on beneath all that convection as far as possible eyewall organization.

As an aside, Vince in 2005 was a hurricane further east than this and thus holds the record, so does anyone know what the farthest east Cape Verde hurricane was, or has Fred broken that record?
