1936 - North Dakota records their coldest ever temperature with a reading of -60Fat Parshall ND. It is interesting to note that North Dakota recorded their all-time hottest temperatures (7/6) and coldest temperatures in the same year.

For the Record

#11 Postby Aslkahuna » Mon Feb 17, 2003 2:27 pm

the 24 hour snowfall record for Echo Summit is also 67 inches set in January 1982. The record 24 hour snowfall for Donner Pass is 66 inches. Both Echo Summit and Donner are major highway passes through the northern Sierra with Echo being US50 and Donner being I-80. I-80 is the only Interstate to go through the Sierra and Echo Summit is the last year round highway through the Sierra from there southward into SoCA. The 1982 storm BTW was accompanied by winds gusting over 100mph.

I bet the posters from AZ would love to see that snowfall occur again...might actually help with their drought situation.

but sadly we aren't anywhere near that this year. The difference being that in 1987 and 1993 we were in a positive PDO phase and now we are in a negative phase though we were then in a late Niño pattern like we are now the difference in the PDO has made for differences in the results here.
