Re: Deep South Winter Weather Discussion 2016-17 Thread
Thanks KatDaddy. Absolutely I just posted about this in the Severe Storm Outbreak Thread. It is the most dangerous dynamical set-up for tornadoes I have personally seen in the area since the March 1993 Superstorm. Everyone in this area needs to be on alert!!!!

Growing up in central Mississippi, middle of January to middle of February was typically the period we saw snow, if it occurred at all.

northjaxpro wrote::uarrow: Yeah the models have been retrograding the big ridge that initially was indicated to set up over the Pacific NW and up into Alaska. This will be critical in the long term. We will see as time progresses if we we do not get a pronounced positive PNA. If we do not see that happen, then yes we will not see a very significant cold spell for the Deep South. Still a ways out though, so this can still change obviously. We will see how this plays out the next few days with.the models.
It still amazes me how horrible the models are predicting cold 10-14 days out, but yet can nail a lengthy extended period of above normal springtime temps a month out
But with that being said, watching the long models the past several days they are definitely trending to warming things right back up after a couple of cool days. Think they are locking in our pattern for February and as hammy said I think for all intents and purposes winter is pretty much over. Oh well it never was much of one anyway.

Anybody know anything about the Gulfport area? Did the storms hit around there at all?

Short-lived thunderstorms rolled through Gulfport two or three times over the weekend, but nothing big that I'm aware of.

I thought I would mention that the very latest GFS 6Z run from this morning is hinting at another potential severe weather and tornado outbreak over the Deep South for the Super Bowl weekend (February 4 - 6)
This is still 300+ hours out from now, but the dynamics for this potential severe weather outbreak will once again potentially be in place down the road. We definitely need to monitor this possibility long term, especially.after the last outbteak this past weekend.
This storm system potentially could bring not only severe weather and tornadoes , but wintry precipitation on its back side in portions of the Lower MS Valley. and the Deep South during this period.

Seems things have become quite El Ninoish as of late. Wonder if it means anything for possible El Nino developing down the road.

Might see some snow in Atlanta and points near there (I-20) and north late weekend. +PNA favorable for the old south.
