Thanks for thinking of us islanders. :)
After pages of speculations about a CONUS landfall it's good to see that somebody cares about what's about to happen here in the Caribbean.

Where are you located, though? Puerto Rico?

Yup, I'm in PR, center-east, close to Humacao.

Could be only strong tropical storm-force winds, Gusty. Maybe 50-60 mph sustained with gusts 75-80 mph. Of course, that's as long as Maria doesn't wobble north. There will be a very tight wind gradient just south of Guadeloupe. Strongest wind there will be late this evening. I have the track going right over Dominica, by the way.

Hope that optimistic scenario occurs :) , because of any wobble north put us in real threat! :( Anyway, i don't like MARIA path and intensity so close to Dominica and Guadeloupe! Too close for comfort as a cane 4 is churning towards us... not good news! Keeping our fingers crossed for my neighbours of DOMINICA! Be safe and dry!

Unfortunately, 2007's two category five landfalls stat has at least a chance of being tied this year... let's hope not.

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

No doubt, Dominicans will be thinking about Hurricane David. Maria's eye seems set to take a remarkably similar track over the south of the island. Thankfully, it appears Maria's winds will be less intense than David's.

Geez, one of those lines goes right over my dad's house. Along with a couple of my uncles. He lives in Aguirre, which is right in between Guayama and Ponce. I have been talking to him all morning, making sure he is ready. STRESSED!!! Hope everyone stays safe in the path of this storm.

Anything in the synoptic pattern that rules out a repeat of the 1928 Okeechobee hurricane. The forecast track of Maria to the 1928 hurricane is almost exactly the same through Puerto Rico.

Hopefully they take this as an opportunity to rebuild it stronger and better. If on top of that AEE will start maintaining their net we would be better off.

Stay safe!

Eye is really getting ready to clear out at this point. Becoming more apparent on both IR and Vis, looks to be about 10-15mi wide to me. May still be intermittent for a while longer as its structure improves, but does not look like it will be too much longer.

You can see a big outflow boundry shoot out north of the hurricane, unfortunately not slowing it down any.

Does anyone else see this tracking a tad south of forecast?

Recon obs. are delayed... Haven't gotten anything in the last 40 minutes. Not good timing.

I just landed in Miami from San Juan...

Everyone is taking this storm seriously. There is almost a sense of panic in the island.

I was just listening to local PR talk radio, and they have been pretty good with informing people of the seriousness of this situation. This storm has the potential to completely destroy the island's weak infrastructure. Not looking good.
