Insane image. Do not like this exit of Dominica in a NNW motion bringing very bad conditions on the SW side of Guadeloupe near les Saintes and close to the localitu of Basse-Terre meaning very strong winds if Maria stay on that track. Crucial hours of us before the arrival Maria maybe near 2 or 3 AM tommorow...

Yes, godspeed to you guys as well in Guadeloupe. You are in my thoughts.

I'd expect 100 mph gusts for SW Guadeloupe

Looks like based on radar that the center has made waterfall.

Just sitting here bawling my eyes out because it's hard not to imagine the suffering. This is absolutely awful.

Might just be the radar but the eye might be clearing.

If Erika did so much damage just as a weak TS, than Maria is going to be 1 million times worse.

yeah if this nnw /nw wobble continues too much longer the SW coast of Guadeloupe might get part of the inner eyewall.. nor sure the population there .. but not good either way.

Doesn't Gusty live on the SW side of Guadeloupe? I could have sworn that I read that earlier today...

Im not sure.. but it looks to be a narrow miss for the NE right front quad on the SW coast ... as long as it does not wobble to the nnw anymore..

It seems that structural changes are underway - the RMW has expanded significantly, the pressure up to about 943 and the winds down to 115-120 kt. ERC enhanced by land it appears - the pinhole is dissipating while the outer eyewall is taking shape.

Roosevelt Skerrit, the prime minister of Dominica, has been speaking to Caracas-based Telesur TV about the devastation wrought by Maria – the scale of which has yet to be assessed.

Skerrit told the station he was rescued from his flooded home by police officers.

Please tell the world that Dominica has been devastated … In the morning we will know how many dead there are …

We were brutally hit.

Sounding really sad and bad there as per media reports coming in.

Most of the Dominica station are down.... Antigua is getting reports from Dominica via WhatsApp and callers from Dominica and people who have relatives on Dominica:

Antigua Observer 91.1 is on with excellent coverage and they are still to get a bit of Maria http://radio.garden/live/saint-johns/antiguaobserver/ It is also on Tune- in app...

DBS is down... the newsroom has collapsed. Wice Q95.5 is running out of Dubai by a resident from Dominica....

I highly reccomend the Tune-In app... it is free on android and iOS... Go to Browse North America, Caribbean islands, Antigua/Barbuda.

The lowest that Recon found was 945, although with near-TS winds, hence I estimate 943 is the real pressure now.

Hurricane force winds seem to go out about 60 nautical miles now, a big jump from pre-landfall.

So it seems Maria was a Category 5 for less than six hours. Sadly it had to be the six hours prior to landfall on Dominica. :(

My heart is heavy as I send out many prayers for the area being hit by Maria.

Tends to happen in ewrc's and by tomorrow sometime we will see a larger eye and a much larger hurricane overall
