Re: Texas Spring 2018
I'm up in Sherman today and overnight. My first ever visit to Sherman! Started in Dallas today, came to Sherman, then Fort Worth tomorrow morning, visiting sites.
Forecast said sunny in Dallas and Sherman, 50s. Was sunny leaving Austin. I get up here, and Dallas is socked in with clouds(???), and chilly 40s!lol
Sun broke out up here in Sherman, with cirrus. Anyway. All I know is traffic is much worse/impatient up here than Austin.lol

First night of spring and made it down to freezing with a light frost. That’s gotta be a good sign for something..

39 in Hideaway. I expect a frost a couple mornings next week with a decent shot at a freeze.

Re: Texas Spring 2018
For SE Texas, rain chances are increasing beginning late Sunday night into next Tuesday. The guidance is becoming a bit more aggressive suggesting area wide chance of showers, some heavy with thunderstorms ahead and along our next cold front. I continue to see rather cool temperatures for early March with days where highs struggle to reach the low 60's and lows in the coldest spots may near 32F to 34F after next weeks cold front.

Re: Texas Spring 2018
This is the 4 year anniversary of a major sleet thunderstorm which dropped a couple inches of sleet in a two hour period along with lots of wind and lightning. I was living north of Lindale at the time. We had sleet drifts over 6 inches deep and lake effect snow the next morning with temps in the teens.

The 60 & 90 day SSW lag composites suggest we could see a cooler & wetter spring across parts of Texas. It looks like DFW could see a freeze around the 8th and then the 12z GFS & GEFS are building some colder anomalies in WCAN in the longer range.

Got to see Oklahoma for my first time, i realized it was only 10 to 15 minutes from hotel in Sherman. I was there for about...maybe three minutes.
But, now I can say I have been to Oklahoma!

The Wichita Mountains and Medicine Park are definitely pretty legit.

Re: Texas Spring 2018
I wonder what would have to happen for this thread to reach 400 pages

This post was probably an opinion of mine, and in no way is official. Please refer to http://www.hurricanes.gov for official tropical analysis and advisories.

Probably a few winter storms. The Fall, Spring, and Summer threads are typically the quietest TX threads of the year on the forum.

Re: Texas Spring 2018
Yeah, a successful any other season besides winter Texas thread is basically 100 pages. Maybe a bit more. Most do not even get to 100 pages. 2015 spring or 2017 summer for example when it rains a lot. Other than that Texas gets hot early and late and there is not much to talk about besides 100F and sunny 90% of the time in late May to mid September. When that happens, no one posts. It would be redundant, it's not like up north where storms roll through often in the summer months.
And if there is tropical activity, the posts are in the tropical threads

Re: Texas Spring 2018
Yeah, the after winter blues. Sure, everyone loves some spring storms, I can't wait. But after mid June or so, snore city until the first cool front in late August or later. Bummer, I do love the winter months.

Well, since I posted this, some friends reminded me that we took a band trip there, for a Tech game, which I don't recall taking. But, game wasn't in the Durant part of OK, so still my first outing in OK north of Sherman .

Without going into detail or even having perused the models for a few days I am seeing enough in this to interest me on both the "Winter" and "Spring" level as we are moving into our first "stormy" season of the year here in SE TX. Whack me if I'm wrong, but after 45 years here....? Not saying we are moving into heavy storms, etc. but I am seeing enough to make me watch with interest.

It's in the long range but the Euro, EPS, & Control all show a winter storm impacting the Panhandle, so maybe Amarillo finally picks up some significant snow and precipitation.
