Looks like recon is suspicious of that reading, they made a 360 turn and are returning to the same area where the Cat 2 SFMR winds were found.

They are saying that the weather is too bad to make any rescues of those 150 people.

My prayers go out to all.

Didn't recon just report 95 MPH winds? I'm confused. Perhaps they were junk.

Currently ~150 awaiting rescue in New Bern. We have 2 out-of-state FEMA teams here for swift water rescue. More are on the way to help us. WE ARE COMING TO GET YOU. You may need to move up to the second story, or to your attic, but WE ARE COMING TO GET YOU.

I hate that so much. People are stupid and don't listen to evacuation orders. They're like "lol oh it won't be so bad i've been through hurricanes before". A friend's friend of mine lives right near the coast and he's not taking it seriously either. He thinks that just because he was in Sandy that he thinks he knows what a powerful hurricane is like. Despite the fact Sandy was a hybrid storm and not fully tropical. Now could you imagine if Florence had hit as a cat 4 with 140mph winds? But since its wind strength is weaker now people are like 'lol see i told you it wasnt going to be so bad'. Just because you didn't really get effected doesn't mean other areas weren't completely devastated by floods, wind and surge. Sorry for the ranting.

How crazy is that
.New Bern is prone to flooding just from heavy rains.

Swift water rescues are very dangerous ...I think they should make every one post a video of WTH they were thinking

Brandon Clement, storm chaser who is New Bern, just said that there have been rescues where they had to cut people out of attics and the wait list to get people rescued is too long and the weather is too bad, they can't get people out.

I think it might be a lot of newer residents in the past 2 decades. The last big hurricane to go through north carolina was Isabel I believe. So it's been a good 15 years since anything like that has gone through.

Could've been too close to the update, either that or they'll wait for the actual advisory before making adjustments, if the wind data was considered valid. I think it should be though considering they found 84kt SFMR on both passes in the same place.

SFMR doesn't work over land and it doesn't do as good in shallow water.

I understand. Last year I lost someone I was trying to locate for a family that went out to go to the store during Harvey. It was devastating. His body was found about a week later.

Just now they said 200 have been rescued, with the other 150 stilling needing to be rescued.

It is so sad that people do not heed of the warnings to get out and evacuate. I pray that God be with those 150 people who are in need of rescue at the moment.

The weather is only getting worse with time and definitely unsafe for emergency responders to get to them. :(

Yeah I forgot Isabel wasn't that big of a storm for NC. Floyd was the last big one so a 19 year gap pretty much. That's a long time. Matthew killed 47 people in the US...26 in NC alone. Matthew isn't comparable to this. The friend I was talking about earlier says he knows what to expect because of Matthew going through lol and its like okay

No, they were rescuing by boat. The other 150 have to wait until conditions improve.

Northeast quad of #Florence is clearly the strongest as per aircraft data. 100 mph winds, with a large area having winds of 85-90 mph
