Wow. That is an impressive IR satellite imagery of Florence currently. It is very ominous indeed and unfortunately it is playing out that way for the NC coast

NEVER, EVER SAY NEVER in the tropics and weather in general, and most importantly, with life itself!!

SFMR doesn't work over land and it doesn't do as good in shallow water.

Currently ~150 awaiting rescue in New Bern. We have 2 out-of-state FEMA teams here for swift water rescue. More are on the way to help us. WE ARE COMING TO GET YOU. You may need to move up to the second story, or to your attic, but WE ARE COMING TO GET YOU.

I hate that so much. People are stupid and don't listen to evacuation orders. They're like "lol oh it won't be so bad i've been through hurricanes before". A friend's friend of mine lives right near the coast and he's not taking it seriously either. He thinks that just because he was in Sandy that he thinks he knows what a powerful hurricane is like. Despite the fact Sandy was a hybrid storm and not fully tropical. Now could you imagine if Florence had hit as a cat 4 with 140mph winds? But since its wind strength is weaker now people are like 'lol see i told you it wasnt going to be so bad'. Just because you didn't really get effected doesn't mean other areas weren't completely devastated by floods, wind and surge. Sorry for the ranting.
I understand. Last year I lost someone I was trying to locate for a family that went out to go to the store during Harvey. It was devastating. His body was found about a week later.
Just now they said 200 have been rescued, with the other 150 stilling needing to be rescued.
That is so tragic and so avoidable. I also do not understand why people just do not leave when they are warned of what could be coming. I have relatives that live around Tampa. Their daughter lives in Sumter SC and she does not drive. She was scared and wanted to come to FL so her parents drove to come bring her back to FL. And somehow, that turned into them ALL STAYING there in SC...even though they had plenty of time..money..ability to get out of harms way. I just do not get it. We showed them all the reports and tried to get them to leave..but nope..they just thought they would be fine since they have always been fine in other hurricanes. It is like there is some sort of mental block or something.

This is very intense for a 90 mph hurricane. The duration is amazing.
The structureal changes are also amazing the last couple hours

Northeast quad of #Florence is clearly the strongest as per aircraft data. 100 mph winds, with a large area having winds of 85-90 mph
2:01 AM 14 Sep 18
the rain and surge is softening up the ground and the winds in the ne quad will easily take large trees down, its going to get much more difficult today
