The thigh-high water was only in front of his truck where he needs to keep the wheels down and it gets shallow. Earlier when they were just 1/2 block down the street, it was waist-deep.

Also one of the rescuers said he thought 3 people drowned where they were trapped in an attic (I assume closer to the river since the houses on this street weren’t at that point yet). But that’s unconfirmed.

its a pain in the neck and for some people they just cant afford although evac shelters are free and then you cant get back in for awhile...however, you risk yourself and first responders if you don't..you would get many more people evacuating if the govt took a stance of absolutely no rescues during the storm and then held their ground when people called or just shutdown the 911 system...they do rescues, they let the media in so people see that and figure if they can be there so can i, they see cars driving around in the storm, they see chasers...evac doesnt mean evac in the current system, like it or not

Going to be close!
topsail has the edge right now, angle of approach helping topsail too
wrightsville beach now with the edge but we have seen hurricanes "bounce" off the coast so points further south have a shot

What appears to be someone in New Bern that was trapped in rising water inside a house, his (Omar) last post mentions chest high water and talking about rescuers unable to get to where he was, and that was about 4 hours ago.

I keep getting signed out every time I try to get HDOB obs for some reason. Anyone else want to finish posting them? I am getting too frustrated.

Outage Update - 1030z
North Carolina: 334,928
South Carolina: 13,061

I expect to see NC cross 500K sometime today, and South Carolina's outages will likely increase sharply as Florence's core moves closer.

Ever heard of the app Zello? I hadn't, but it was praised by the Cajun Navy on Fox News this morning as one of the resources they use to rescue people who need rescuing. I just joined. You can text comments or speak, but voice should only be used for emergencies and rescue information.
I've already heard many requests for rescue, including 2 kids from a fallen tree, another man from a fallen tree, a lady saying she hasn't been able to reach family (friends?) in hours after they said water was approaching their house, and multiple flooding requests.

Those are highlights from the station, not a live stream. Area is still under heavy convection per satellite and radar; my guess is they lost the live feed a few hours ago, hence the switch to highlights.

Yeah I agree, that's not a live shot, there's no way skies are clear with radar showing a squall over it,

Zello is a godsend in these situations. Many groups out there working SAR right now.

Yes I was fortunate enough to be able to help them a bit with dispatch and Zello was amazing. I've started suggesting it to any groups that need a good radio / walkie talkie type system on the fly.

Amazing how Florence's eye became closed right before starting to make landfall.
