Great as usual CapnCrunch! Hope that verifies for all of us!

A quick composite of all weak-moderate Ninos since 1950.

________________________________________________________

Ninos of such intensity but in low solar years or descending solar. These are some of the most persistently coldest, and snowiest winters for DFW consequently.

Now to really drive the pattern to town are the 2 severe -NAO/-AO patterns to couple. Two of the best winters. 1963-1964 and 2009-2010.

Yep, all this talk of an early cold snap/snow has me pumped. To me, any cold, snow, or ice in November is a sweet bonus. Just like the same in March. The past couple autumns have been terrible and it is nice to have some hope before Thanksgiving!!!

It wasn't that long ago we were wondering if summer was going to end and here we are model watching at the beginning of November! Hope this is a good indication of the winter before us.

Joe B’s new temp forecast for the winter is blahhh. Heart of the winter aimed towards the southeast again just like every other forecast I’ve seen.

JB is super east bias when it comes to his winter forecast, I mean have you ever seen the east, northeast NOT have a winter that's warm and snow free.

Plus remember it is anomalies relative to normal. -3 in Alabama is not the same as -3 in Oklahoma per se. Relative to normal actually may play out coldest in the gulf states since persistent cold/rainy stj patterns nip at their normals strongest over a 3 month composite.

Actually JB'S Updated forecast might have shifted a tad east with the 167 percent above normal snowfall... It still shows 133 percent above normal across most ALL of OK and TX with Temperatures avg between -1 to -3 degrees below normal... Still has an area of 167 percent above normal snowfall from the DFW Metroplex Eastward... Keep in mind ALL of this is just a GUESS! Regardless an active winter is coming no matter what map you see I promise! :cold: :froze:

The official 1st freeze of Winter 2018-19 happened this morning Nov 10th, that's 8 days earlier than my predicted 18th, and the earliest first freeze since October 30th 1993.

This also follows my analog year of 76-77 which had its first freeze Nov 13th.

As for the possibility of snow next week, just dont see it for the immediate DFW area, but those north along the RedRiver and from Wichita Falls down to Bowie could see a dusting.

If Houston has a freeze tomorrow or Wednesday it will be one month ahead of normal. Inquiring minds want to know if this is a harbinger of weather to come?
