Only thing that makes me more upset than the snow this year has been the Cowboy’s play right now. At least they both have a good looking future?

We’ll see about that.

I see our seasonal low bottoming out in the teens, but many many nights in the 20s. Sub freezing highs will be common in Feb.

This portion of the Area Forecast Discussion from the San Angelo NWS looks promising in it's Long Term forecast. :D :cold:

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Angelo TX
1027 PM CST Sat Jan 12 2019

LONG TERM...
(Sunday Night through Saturday)

Zonal flow to prevail across the Southern Plains through most of
the upcoming week. Weal shortwave will zip across South Texas on
Tuesday and may bring a few showers, but appears this will mainly
be south of West Central Texas. Gradual warming trend occur
through the week with highs climbing into the mid and upper 60s
for Wednesday-Friday.

Bigger changes for next weekend as a deeper trough moves into the
area. Very cold air in Alaska will make a southward plunge as
this upper trough passes, with the ECMWF showing an arctic cold
front plunging through the plains. GFS isn`t as cold, but
normally doesn`t handle this type of cold air very well anyway so
will lean towards a colder solution for next weekend. Will drop
highs into the 40s for most areas on Saturday with the raw data
suggesting it may be even colder. Once the forecast details start
to become a little more certain, temperatures may need to be
dropped even more.

I see the new & old GFS both have the brunt of the cold going east of Texas for the entire run. +PNA

Yelp. Cpv17 I agree.

+ PNA - AO - NAO is what we will likely have for teleconnections by month's end.

This has been rare in recent years having all three of these indices aligning at the same time in winter across North America.

This very cold weather pattern will be completely locked into place for quite a prolonged period for the Eastern regions of this continent from the Pole south to all the way down through Florida peninsula inn which below to well below temps will be coming.

Well, in the case of what the FV3 runs are showing, just downright brutal cold. :froze: The temps shown on those runswould probably be the coldest anywhere on the earth I would assume.

Yall... Yall. That 0z FV3... Nope Nope Nope Nope. Multiple instances of -25 degree temperatures here. That's beyond cold. I live in Ohio, not Siberia. If that comes true you might see me chilling down in Corpus those days. :froze:

Here's the surface temps and windchill from the FV3. Crossing my fingers it's just hour 276 of the new GFS trying to get a rouse out of me lol.

If that came to pass... would put Texas winter (what we like) in major jeopardy. From personal experience....it's quiet stable and tends to empty central Western Canada of the coldest air

Don't panic y'all there is plenty of cold for everybody. I like the ensembles look. Generally speaking everyone along and east of the Rockies should get cold and maybe storms. The ENS keeps the height rises off the west coast which is good for Texas as well as some -NAO.

My concern going forward is suppression more than not cold enough.
