Weather geek and a storm spotter in West Austin. Not a degreed meteorologist. Big snow fan. Love rain and cold! Despise heat!
Re: Texas Summer 2019
Just got a little thunderstorm and some hail here in east austin; about thumbnail sized but not too heavy.

Re: Texas Summer 2019
Nice cluster of severe-warned thunderstorms expanding and rolling through the Austin area this afternoon. Looks like the Braker Lane area and South Austin/TX-71 areas had some 0.5"-1.00" hail swaths pass through them.

Currently hailing at our house, thought the severe stuff was going south of Austin?

I was at work when it hit. My office is just north of Braker. There was some tiny hail (maybe peas) mixed into the torrential wind-driven rain. In the lobby, you couldn't see past the trees, 10-20 feet out! Now it's sunny.LOL

A wonderful photo (not mine) of I believe the latest severe-warned thunderstorm that produced some pea to dime-sized hail in areas of South Austin at around 4:50 p.m (or perhaps the first one around at 3:15 p.m.) Very clear inflow and outflow structure - anticyclonic, actually.

Big storms made it to SA this afternoon too! Much needed as the airport is still running a rainfall deficit for the year. Crazy since all around there's surpluses.

Had to take shelter this morning. There was a radar confirmed tornado nearby where I live.

Pretty intense storms mostly along and south of I-10 now. I wanted a bit more rain but these storms are pretty bad. Don’t need the hail so I will gladly pass on these and wait for tropical sea-breeze storms.

Re: Texas Summer 2019
Euro Weeklies are now pushing into late July and no signs of any kind of significant heat wave. Far South Texas is the loan hot spot in the state. Oklahoma just recorded the wettest May every and a large portion of Texas was above normal, those wet soils will make it hard for a heat dome to setup over the area. Below normal temp/ above normal precp summer on the way?

Possibly, but I see no signs of any significant rainfall anywhere in the state for the next week or two.

Remember, as we move into July and August avg totals fall off a cliff. A single afternoon tstorm can get some areas above normal in July and August.

Re: Texas Summer 2019
I think it's all gonna depend on if we can get some easterly waves and an active sea breeze front. If the death ridge can get established, it only takes a couple of weeks before we dry out completely and it's endless days of over 100+ and miserable.

Re: Texas Summer 2019
The weekend temps have sure dropped. From mid to upper 90's to low 90's forecasted now. The strong front for June will not only cool off Texas but a large portion of the country next week. A summer miracle!!! It is nice to see what summer weather is capable of without a huge death ridge H-dome parked over our heads. So far early summer has been very nice and could continue according to Bubba Hotep's post above.
