It doesn't get hit that often given the number of storms that spend their lives out in the Atlantic. By chance, a storm is occasionally going to landfall on the islands, you don't really pay attention to all the ones that miss (a bit like the survivorship bias https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Survivorship_bias).
