It doesn't get hit that often given the number of storms that spend their lives out in the Atlantic. By chance, a storm is occasionally going to landfall on the islands, you don't really pay attention to all the ones that miss (a bit like the survivorship bias https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Survivorship_bias).

Surface mixing is now more effective due to recent convective burst in the northeastern quadrant. SFMR winds up to 80kt while flight-level winds are at 93KT (corresponding to 84KT at surface)

Sorry you lost power, that's no fun! Hopefully it comes back on soon...do you mean it didn't feel like a cat 1 in terms of seeming weaker or stronger?

The apparently went with 95 mph at 8 am. I thought they usually went from 80 kt/90 mph to 85 kt/100 mph?

Yea that can't be right because they would have to split the difference between 80 and 85 kts. Unless they randomly decided to start doing that now, or it's just a typo of 85 MPH?

I don’t think it’s a typo. They would’ve noticed too quickly. They may upgrade to category 2 at 15z with 85 kt/100 mph.

What’s this Final Tropical Cyclone Update that’s supposed to be issued for Paulette at 9AM? Could that amend this to Cat.2?

Edit: Jus checked two seconds after posting this and I was right! Cat.2 Paulette as expected with 100mph.

Can’t believe in a record breaking season such as this, it took our P storm to be our second Category 2+ hurricane.
This season is perfect to belong in the year 2020... it just doesn’t make sense.

Yet SE Florida hasn’t seen sustained hurricane winds in nearly 15 years! Talk about some strange luck at least for us.

Yeah it's bordering on the ridiculous especially for those of us who grew up thinking of Andrew as the quintessential hurricane.

Well for being such a small island in a decent size ocean makes it impressive. Not even the island chain of Hawaii can get a direct hurricane hit.
