Vince: the 9th of October, 2005.

Technically this beats Tammy for the record earliest 20th tho! That unnamed Azores SS in 2005 before Tammy screwed up the order

The previous record for the 20th storm would be Tammy '05 however, which formed on October 5, 2005.

In terms of "named" storms, it surpasses Vince of 2005 which formed on October 9 but more accurately in terms of earliest 20th tropical storm, it surpasses Tammy of 2005 which formed on October 5 (there was an unnoticed subtropical storm on October 4 that was added in reananalysis).

On October 4, 2005, an unnamed subtropical Storm formed, which should’ve been the 18th nameable storm. On Oct 5, 2005, Tammy formed, becoming the 19th nameable storm. Vince became a Subtropical storm on Oct 8, 2005, which was the 20th nameable storm.

So it depends if you’re talking the V storm or the 19th named/nameable storm.

Edit: I took too long typing this, as other users already replied above me saying the same thing

You’re order may be a typo. Stan was the 18th named storm.

8 in 1949, 2002, 2007, and 2010

And technically we're at 7 named storms as Omar was named on the 1st!

It's funny cause the storm itself formed before Nana (Aug 31) but was named after Nana causing a funny alphabet scramble after M.

Literally...

But it qualifies as a storm though? I’m not sure why it’s aggravating. If the systems meets the classifications it should be classified.

Oh wow, I didn't realize that. Looks like September 2020 will probably be taking that top spot soon, lol.

Well yeah it's a storm, I'm not debating that, it's just we're running out of names soooo quickly I wouldn't be surprised if we have an October major with a greek name that affects land. The Atlantic is just bonkers this year!!

Forgive me if this is off topic, but what is the record for the most number of named storms in the Atlantic at one time? Surely this is it.

I believe this is the record for named storms. I think 1971 might have had 6 tropical cyclones simultaneously, but two were depressions.

Poor Vicky will only be remembered for setting records. Short lived storm that found an opportunity to become a tropical storm.

Honestly not as bad as I thought she could be. 45mph storm that could stick around for a day or two or maybe 3. I wasn’t even expecting this to form at all.

Atlantic-wide satellite imagery is a sight to behold right now. Kudos to the NHC for their hard work - tracking 6 storms at once is no easy job (counting Karina in the EPAC).

Another formation record in flames but another short lived oceanic storm; what a weird year

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.
