How many storms will December feature?
The last tropical cyclone in December was 2013. Will 2020 feature any?

I'm going with "yes"; whether that be in the far east Atlantic off Africa and immediately recurving, or development in the far SW GOM or Caribbean I'm going to guess there will be. Certainly a long-shot in any year though.

Going with a yes too. Just a hunch. Lots of warm water will be left, and shear could remain low over certain areas. A stray system is a good bet in my opinion.

I am in no way a professional. Take what I say with a grain of salt as I could be totally wrong. Please refer to the NHC, NWS, or SPC for official information.

Going to break the trend and say no. December is long overdue for an Atlantic storm but it can't seem to produce anything lately.

Had Epsilon persist into December and then Zeta in 2005 so yeah sure, this might be the year that breaks the steak of quiet. Last full on tropical system was in 2007 I think. Assuming we get a break in the progressive pattern doesn't seem imposible

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

6 yes (including me) and 1 no. My other thread backfired but a poll for this would be nice. It can be either, Yes or No or have the storm number option as 1, 2 or more or none.

The way things are going, it's a strong signal that we won't be done come November 30. I have to think we'll get at least one storm in December. Maybe even one from a tropical origin, which would be almost unprecedented.

Agreed, I'm thinking an Odette 03 like scenario is possible.

Considering the exceptionally optimal conditions in the Caribbean at this stage and the fairly optimal conditions that allowed Theta to form, combined with the fact that it's 2020 and that this season is just absolute bananas, I think I'm gonna go with a yes. Similarly to 2005, I think this season may not stop until the calender tells it to.

Re: Will there be any December named storms this year?
I’m going to make the possibly slightly absurd prediction that another Caribbean hurricane or major will last into December, possibly leading to the first ever major in December.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Absolutely. November is not slowing down at all, so I wouldn't be surprised if December bring two more on the table.
Hell, 2021 might have an early start like 2016.

If we get a wild December, it might be time to abolish "hurricane season".

I have a gut feeling that many on here will be shocked and December will have nothing, but we'll see.

I'd be thankful. December hasn't produced anything in a long time, hopefully that trend continues to end this seemingly eternal season. I still think we'll see a short lived, high latitude TS though
