Re: ATL: BILL - Tropical Storm - Discussion
What a waste of a storm name. So who here works for the NHC and keeps naming storms so I can't win the annual contest?

I wouldn’t call it a waste of a name. 50 kt and 998 mbar is solid for a storm this early in the season, it looked good on visible imagery for a bit, and the presence of an eyewall suggests it may be worthy of a post-season intensity upgrade.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

I've seen better. Subtropical at best.

ASCAT confirmed 45-50kt winds and a tight circulation. Ignoring that would be inconsistent at best and irresponsible at worst.
Also, how on earth is this "subtropical"?

Waste? Lmao what? Probably the best looking June storm in a decade and far better than many of the named storms last year. Why do people dislike full blown tropical storms being named from the tropical storm naming list?

Colors of lost purpose on the canvas of irrelevance
Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

While I did think Ana was a waste of a name, Bill was certainly deserving of the name. Short-lived but it looked very impressive there. Wonder if it was stronger since it did try to form an eye.

How was this subtropical?? And you realize it's not September yet right? What else would you expect in June? This is one of the better-looking storms I've seen in June honestly. Big overachiever in my book, considering at one point yesterday I didn't expect much from it. Boy how I got proven wrong lol

I am in no way a professional. Take what I say with a grain of salt as I could be totally wrong. Please refer to the NHC, NWS, or SPC for official information.

If it meets the naming criteria, it's not a waste of a name.

To add clarification to my statement, I'm not against the naming of Ana. It did indeed meet the requirements. I tend to see a name as a waste more if it's a very short lived storm (up to 12 hours at most). It always felt like a name just comes and goes.
