2005's Most Amazing Satellite Images (BEWARE DIAL-UP USERS!)

#1 Postby wxmann_91 » Mon Sep 12, 2005 1:30 am

original post wrote:Since so many of you said something about Katrina being "as beautiful as Mitch" and "the most beautiful hurricane in some time", I've put together a photoblog on Imageshack. If moderators want to move this to the Hurricane Recovery and Aftermath forum then feel free to do so.

Hurricane Katrina Photo Gallery

BTW, I messed up while creating it, click on "previous image", don't click on "next image". If your Internet is fast enough and if you continuously click on "previous image", you may be able to visualize the loop. Images from 12:45Z - 23:15Z Aug 28, 30 minute intervals. Feel free to comment and/or rate my images.

I have compiled and saved thousands of satellite and radar images from the 2005 Hurricane Season. So it is time I share them with you.

New photoblog, this time it is closeups of Katrina's eye and structure (instead of panned out view the previous photoblog).

Same as before, click previous for chronological order, next to go directly to the sunset shots.

Comments and ratings encouraged.

Rita satellite images:

Zoomed out

Zoomed in

Now you can compare the sizes of the storms. (BTW the first images aren't too impressive, go to the middle of the day or the evening when Rita reached 897 mb.)

Great job again Wxmann_91. I have some more pics I collected too, if anyone is interested. I'll be organizing the Rita page later, but for now you can browse through the pics.

You knew this was coming... :D

Wilma satellite images from the day she was 882 mb (October 17)...

Early morning IR - http://img480.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=satellitempic151nu.jpg

Entire day zoomed out Visible- http://img312.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=satellitepic213uw.jpg

Entire day close up Visible - http://img434.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=satellitecpic218gp.jpg

This is in gallery view instead of photoblog viewk, so the later images are at the top and the earlier images at the bottom. If you want to see Wilma at her peak sats then go scroll down to the bottom for the visibles, since by evening her ERC was well underway.

Wilma images from the day she made landfall in Yucatan coming soon.

http://rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/gallery/ Go to the bottom and select the date. The images are available in 2km, 1km, 500m, and 250m images. Some of these are absolutely amazing, and show incredible detail. All images are from the visible band.

Well that didn't last long. Wilma at its peak with its 2nm eye was the most beautiful hurricane I've ever seen.

Both Katrina and Wilma were very spectacular canes.

BTW, just wanted to say that you can rate images by clicking on a particular image and then scrolling down a bit to where it says "Rate this image!...".

These storms aren't really "amazing", but these have never been seen before here and they are somewhat impressive.
