I wanted to post this thread now since the tropics are quieting down and so is the activity in this thread. If another impressive cane develops then of course I will create a new one at the end of the hurricane season.

I included only the majors this year but other will be an option since there were other impressive hurricanes this year. I will not vote for now, very hard poll.

Base your answers NOT on damage or death, but on the presentation on satellite imagery overall, structure and eye and everything.

It was mostly a draw between Katrina and Wilma, but I chose Wilma because she looked alot bigger with that small eye. Dennis and Emily were puny compared to the Big 3.

Here's are links to images from MODIS , which are often some of the most beautiful vis sat pics available (well, the 1km, 500m, and 250m images are). The resolution can be changed to 1km, 500m, or 250m, though I'll link to the 2km image below since the higher resolution pictures are not friendly for those who don't have broadband (cable, dsl, etc) connections:

Dennis -- http://rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/gall ... 45.2km.jpg

Emily -- http://rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/gall ... 45.2km.jpg

Katrina -- http://rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/gall ... 00.2km.jpg

Rita -- http://rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/gall ... 55.2km.jpg

Wilma -- http://rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/gall ... 40.2km.jpg

Wilma (near Cozumel) -- http://rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/gall ... 25.2km.jpg

I never liked those kind of images. The clouds in the image are too bright, and the image is usually from another angle....and you sometimes cant see the eye.

It peaked at 4-7am EST. Visible came out, after it weakened from 115 mph to 105 mph.

Oh. Well, I'd bet she still looked pretty impressive at 105mph, if anyone has visible shots of that.

I think Wilma made everyone forget how awesome Katrina looked when it was annular. One vote for Katrina right here.

Annulars might be rare, but a 2nm eye is unheard of. Annulars might be able to use 80% of the theoretical heat potential but Wilma pretty much used 100%.

Dennis has a second peak before hitting Cuba. Does anyone have an image of that?
