In about 6 hours I'm afraid there's going to be a lot of people in Key West that are going to regret their decision. They need to pray Irma doesn't go west of them...

Miami Storm Tracker wrote:Thanks FrankP,
on the radar you provided for sure it is moving. Why would the basic Key west radar look as if it's not moving?
I don't know it seems to be moving to me on KBYX... one thing to note is that the lower elevation angles update ~every 2 minutes in the scanning strategy (VCP 212 w/Sails) key west radar so you would need a loop with more frames to adequately judge movement.

Good job on preps guys!
I had to run out to Metairie about an hour ago. Lots and lots of FL License Plates driving around greater New Orleans second only to LA licence plates. Very noticeable on the I-10.

In 3 posts posted within minutes of each other, we've had predictions that Irma is making it's turn north, wobbling west, and conducting a loop to the ssw. Never a dull moment!

Might not have it done by the time it hits the keys, but I believe there is plenty of time to do it before it's peninsula landfall.

I've been following Miami met John Morales on Twitter since this was looking like a major impact for Miami.
Can anyone give recommendations of the best Twitter accounts / mets to follow for SW FL - Naples, Ft Myers, Tampa...

Here's another one then to add to that: Hurricane Irma's average mean motion is exactly on track.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

Added GOES-16 1 minute imagery to weather.us in case anyone was interested. Create your own custom domain to see closeup of eye: https://weather.us/satellite/812-w-236-n/satellite-superhd-1min.html#play

The lightning strike was believed to be minor and hit the front end of the modified C130 aircraft leaving some damage. The aircraft will be grounded for some time to be fixed for the damage, but it is unknown how long.

NOAA flies P3's. It was an Air Force C130 that was hit by lightning.
Ah I wasn't sure who flies what, looking at FR24 NOAA has their Gulfstream IV in the air at the moment. South of Cuba.
