I don't see what you mean. By what definition would you say this is looking "very annular"?

annular hurricanes typicaly meet a criteria of surrounding dry air and pretty much no convection outside the eyewall and CDO .. they are very rare .. and im not sure Isabel bit that criteria. but was close..

Interesting, thanks for the reply. I was under the impression that the only definition was the ring-shape. Sounds like I need to do some more reading. Thanks again.

It's July 1 and this system looks better than anything from last year (at least as I recall). it really does look like a formative hurricane.

This process of convection weakening is very typical during the intensification process.. then typically there is a large burst of convection on a portion of the developing eyewall that ends up wrapping around and you get very quick deepening..

Isabel "hit" a lot of places, but made landfall here in NC. I had just moved here and you always remember your first one very well!

What is the likely hood this thing hits Wilmington in percentage chances? I am just a computer programmer who loves watching these storms form and just happen to be moving to Wilmington, NC in a few weeks.
