Re: Florida Weather
NorthJaxPro. It seems like they said it really wont be bad here. only slight change cor even a thunderstorm. They said the risk is north of here in Orlando. Unless things changed that I missed. There is though a lot less talk with this one than the one last weekend.

Re: Florida Weather

The big question with this current system for tomorrow is if the instability will be sufficient to spark severe thunderstorms. The dynamics are in place, but I will be monitoring the situation closely.

Re: Florida Weather
Marginal risk as of now for the southern peninsula - greater threat seems to be around the I-4 corridor north.
NWS Miami
NWS Miami
A PRE-FRONTAL TROUGH WILL DEVELOP AHEAD OF THE FRONT. MODEL
CONSENSUS HAS BEEN CONSISTENTLY SHOWING A SURGE OF MOISTURE
MOVING IN FROM THE SOUTHWEST FRIDAY MORNING AT DAWN OR SHORTLY
THEREAFTER WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS AND A FEW TSTORMS POSSIBLE THEN.
A LINE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS IS FORECAST TO DEVELOP ALONG
THE PRE-FRONTAL TROUGH AND PUSH FROM WEST TO EAST ACROSS SOUTH FL
LATE FRI MORNING THROUGH MID AFTERNOON. THE STORM PREDICTION
CENTER HAS PLACED THE ENTIRE FLORIDA PENINSULA IN A MARGINAL
SEVERE RISK FOR FRIDAY...AND AGREE WITH THIS ASSESSMENT AS WIND
FIELDS INCREASE WITH A 30-40 KT LOW LEVEL JET DEVELOPING OVER THE
AREA FRIDAY. WIND FIELDS ARE NOT NEARLY AS STRONG AS THE PAST
SYSTEM...AND THE LOW CENTER WILL BE POSITIONED MUCH FURTHER TO THE
NORTH...SO WINDS QUICKLY BECOME UNIDIRECTIONAL. HOWEVER, GIVEN THE
INCREASING LOW LEVEL WINDS, AM ANTICIPATING A LINE/OR AT LEAST
BROKEN LINE/OF TSTORMS DEVELOPING AND SWEEPING ACROSS THE AREA,
CAPABLE OF PRODUCING ISOLATED STRONG-SEVERE WIND GUSTS WHICH COULD
PRODUCE SPORADIC DOWNED TREES/POWER LINES. MAIN TSTORM THREAT
TIMING 10 AM-2 PM FROM WEST TO EAST.

Re: Florida Weather
lightning data shows the gulf squall line is very active over the gulf down to about the latitude of south florida. in addition a few strikes are popping well ahead of the line over the loop current. I use the lightningmaps.org site and the lightning with the current squall line is more frequent than the one that triggered the tornadoes in the Sarasota area. while conditions may not be as favorable for tornadoes this time, the straight line wind threat may be higher than the last event.

Big drop rain on this one but quick. Not nearly as bad as the last two. The tin roof was really drumming this am.

Re: Florida Weather
Constant light to moderate rain - heavy at times - has been falling in West Dade since about 8 AM this morning. Large trees swaying below the window of my dorm as the heavier cells moved in. Still got about two more hours of rain left to go before the front manages to push through.
Saturday night/Sunday morning low currently forecast for 43 F - coldest of the year thus far.

Re: Florida Weather
The big drop rain was tropical and came from the front energizing that Nino weather border that has been hanging over us. When the actual front got here it was smaller drops. A very subtle dynamic happening from the Nino.

Re: Florida Weather

Current temperature here at the home base is 37.4 degrees and a light rain shower past over here in the past 15 minutes. Oh so close. If it haf been a couple of degrees colder, may have seen flurries here.
A large area of low, wrap around cloudiness on the southwest side of the massive blizzard off the Mid Atlantic coast will hold tough today. This, combined with the tight wind gradient from the northwest with the blizzard and Polar High building down into the Lower MS River Valley, is going to make this the coldest feeling day by far this wintet. High temps here will only mske it into the low-to mid 40s

The pressure gradient will finally loosen tonight as the blizzard moves farther away off the coast later tonight. Also, the clouds will finally begin to scour out as the Polar High.axis builds in closer to the Florida peninsula. Temps are expected to dropt to the upper 20s inland North and Northeast Florida , another light freeze here for tomorrow morning.
Stay warm today everyone!!

I'm surprised there was no snow flurries reported in your area, sounding this morning showed freeze level down to 1,200-1,500 above the surface.
Very cold here in northern Orlando area as well, if cloud cover stays put I doubt we will be getting out of 40s this afternoon.

Re: Florida Weather
What a remarkably cold, blustery wintry day across Northeast Florida. The impressive cold air advection on the backside of the major blizzard currently off the Mid Atlantic coast has given Northeast Florida its coldest day since January 8, 2015. Due to an expansive area of wrap around low stratocumulus cloudiness across the region, and a extremely bitter strong northwest wind, . temperature has held steady in the upper 30s the entire day.
Between 12:30 and 1:30 this afternoon, snow flurries fell at my locale for the second consecutive year. This also happened January 8, 2015. There was just enough moisture available above the surface and the boundary layer reached to at or below freezing at about 1000 ft above the surface to squeeze out some tiny flurries , which fell for about 40 minutes. There were numerous reports throughout NE Florida and SE Georgia of the flurries earlier this aftetnoon.
Clouds will begin to scour out this evening and give way to clear skies as the Blizzard off the Mid Atlantic coast pulls farther away and the Polar High builds in across the region. Winds will definitely relax as we head into the overnight as well. Temps are going to fall into the mid- upper 20s across North Florida interior areas with some locales possibly sering a hard freeze.
Tomorrow will be a sunny day, albeit still cold, but compared to today, will be much warmer with max temps reaching the mid 50s here in Jax.
Depending on the cloud cover and if it can clear out down across Central Florida, this could potentially be the coldest night down there this season, although wind could still stsy elevatef down there a bit. If skies clear out there, temps tomorrow morning could drop into the mid to upper 30s all along the I-4 corridor.

Re: Florida Weather
It was very windy all day here in Broward County, saw a high of 62 around 11 AM and it is now falling to 58 degrees in my zone thanks to these strong winds advecting in the cold, it's going to be a very cold night by south florida standards!

Re: Florida Weather
Currently 27.3 degrees at the home base this morning. This is the coldest temp measured here so far this season. Also, this is the fifth freeze of the season, and another freeze is expected for tomorrow morning. Today promises to be a beautiful, mid winter day and it will feel much warmer compared to yesterday"s brutal wind chill values.
It is also the coldest morning of the season down in the central peninsula. Temperatures at 12Z have dropped to below freezing in Brooksville with 29 degrees and the freeze line is very near the I-4 corridor this morning. Lakeland reported 34 degrees nearing sunrise, but did drop to the freeze mark at 11Z. Deland and Sanford both reporting 32 degrees and Orlando International Airport is reporting 35 degrees. Temps are in the mid-upper 30s all along the rest of the I-4 corridor. Skies cleared out and wind has become light , which allowed temps to drop to the coldest levels of the season to this juncture down there.
Meanwhile, South Florida is also having their coldest readings of the season as well. Temps in the mid-upper 40s are uniform across the region. West Palm Beach is checking in at 40 degrees and it is 47 degrees down at Miami International Airport.
The Polar High Pressure is in control today as its axis will be be right over the state today. It will be a MUCH better day today compared to yesterday statewide. The wind will be much, much calmer and tolerable today. The sun will be out in full force. It will still be a cool.day, below the averages for this time of year. Max temps will climb into the low-mid 50s across the northern peninsula, and upper 50s-low 60s acrosd the central peninsula and mid 60s to near 70 across South Florida.
Freeze and Frost will be likely tonight across my area with upper 20s expected in thd interior areas. Some areas across the north central/central peninsula may also see frost tomorrow morning.
The Polar High moves east into the Atlantic on Monday, Thus, a moderation of temperatures will commence. Another southern stream system with the El Nino will develop in the GOM beginning Wednesday, bringing another round of rain to the state later this week. This system does not look to be as strong as the past 2 Low Pressure systems to come through the state for the time being.
Have a great day everyone!!
